Big 12 thread

UTSA on for 2022, rice in 21, UTEP in 20, rice in 19, UTEP in 16, Rice in 15, North Texas in 14

18 and 17 had Tulsa and San Jose so they still had G5
True...but those other Big 12 Texas schools (Tech, TCU, Baylor, now Houston) were conference games.

Again, I see absolutely no scenario and will be totally drop dead shocked if UT or A&M schedule any OOC games with those four at any point in the near future. (Sans Texas and Tech.)

Won't there be pressure in the Legislature for these games to happen. ???

The animosity between Texas/Texas A&M and Oklahoma/Oklahoma State is deep and wide. OSU is an irritant to OU but OU is like a fatal disease to OSU. Texas A&M is a pain in the ass to Texas but Texas is the anti-Christ to Texas A&M. I'm glad to see OU and Texas back in the mix with Texas A&M. It would be nice if Oklahoma State was joining the SEC too but that's never going to happen now. However, it does get tiresome hearing Jr. yapping like a chihuahua so if Bedlam is interrupted for even one week I'm like most OU fans: adios, Jr. Never again. It would be a shame but there's only so much bad mouthing that can be tolerated.........unless, of course, you're in the same conference and then it's just a part of Life.

Good question. There might be but Texas and A&M have more sway than the other four put together.

I think the only reason they've scheduled any of us lesser beings in the first place was to help us out financially. If you are going to pay a G5 or FCS to come in, why not a brethren from your state. Baylor, TCU and SMU don't get state funds anyway. Houston does.

It does sound like Baylor, TCU, SMU, and Houston are the biggest losers in this move out of everyone. They will have a hard time being relevant now that they won't have Texas, Texas A&M, or Oklahoma on their schedule.

Texas Tech, Okie State, Iowa State, Kansas schools and WVU are just as big a losers. SMU and Houston have only been getting G5 money to begin with. SMU will continue with G5 money but Houston will get a little bump as will UCF, Cincy and BYU.

Remains to be seen how big of a revenue drop Big 12 teams will see but I suspect it will be significant. I can’t see Houston, UCF and Cincy coming close to making up for the loss of Texas and Oklahoma. BYU will help offset it the most IMHO.

Oklahoma State is still getting that T Boone Pickens money? IMO, they are the program in best shape to just dominate the new Conference. Iowa State was really never that great of a program to begin with. People keep building them up based off a couple of seasons with Matt Campbell and I am not even really sure they were that great those seasons or they just got lucky.

However, I agree with your overall point. I just think Oklahoma State and Texas Tech are in better shape to stay towards the top of the New Big12 and get finances versus the other schools on the list.

West Virginia is another story. The Big12 move, in general, was not good for them but they had no other option. The constant road trips across country has to be a wear on the team and probably hurts their ability to win.

Verdict still out on BYU, Cincy, and UCF but I think the move should help all three of them. It was a no brainer for Houston.

Was just doing some surfing and it's hard to believe that OU has not won a National Championship in a men's major sport for 22 years. We kick ass in gymnastics (both men and women) and softball.........and that's just about it. One NC in men's golf 5 years ago. Jeez. :tsk:

OU just beat Florida for another National Title in womens gymnastics today. I believe the men gymnist go for another NC tomorrow. OU finished runner up in mens golf last year to Pepperdine.

lol, Bowlsby said that the other presidents would have done unequal sharing for UT and ou if they had gone to them first lol.. ahh man how this is rich, those presidents and AD should be happy that UT let them get their full share for over a decade.

Who wants to be in a conference with unequal sharing anyway? Talk about hatred from the other members! And what about "payback time" when all the judgement calls never go your way? Bowlsby and the 8 dwarfs would have hated being in that kind of toxic environment too if there were just honest about it.

they'll reach an agreement shortly. I think ESPN will agree to continue to pay the current contract to the Big12 over the next 3 years, even when UT/ou leave at the conclusion of this season.

You are likely right but it's just another example of how ESPN is being run like a woke taco stand. Paying the Modest XII the same money as the Big XII was getting with Texas and OU is laughable.

I’ve always thought ESPN was nuts because they were willing to pay amounts the major networks weren’t. But, they haven’t gone under so what the hell do I know.

they were trying to make UT happy.. and they were paying for a 12 school league.. Which is why they didn't expand years ago. They preferred the bigger cuts.. But let's blame UT for that too lol
