ND's legendary coaches (Rockne, Leahy, Ara, Holtz) were only there between 10-12 years. Also, when guys like Rockne coached they didn't play as many games as today.

Counting wins on the field? OSU has 3. Urban and Bruce are both in the 80's.He will be Notre Dame's 3rd Coach to reach 100 wins.
Pretty impressive.
Not sure how many schools can claim that.
Oklahoma has 4 Coaches who have done it.
Yes. It is weird. He’s also among the losingest coaches there too. Considering several of those wins were vacated by NCAA sanctions and you’re judged by NC’s at ND. Of which he hasn’t sniffed. Is it me or does that sound weird and pathetic?
What has he won?
Tuberville, Malzahn and Chizik all won more than Kelly.
And he probably would have won a few more if the plane hadn’t crashed.ND's legendary coaches (Rockne, Leahy, Ara, Holtz) were only there between 10-12 years. Also, when guys like Rockne coached they didn't play as many games as today.
Regardless of outcome making a BCS NCG and making the playoffs twice is more than most coaches can say. Not everyone can be Saban, Urban or DaboYes. It is weird. The only people that care about this are the school SID’s and some segments of the media
Fair enough. But fair or unfair you’re judged by winning those championships at ND. And it’s not just “delusional fans” making that claim. People still say “ND s irrelevant” despite those accomplishments you listed.Regardless of outcome making a BCS NCG and making the playoffs twice is more than most coaches can say. Might be thought of more highly with some conference championships. Oklahoma fans seem pretty happy with Lincoln Riley even though he’s never won a playoff game.Fair enough. We're going to see a lot of these kind of records broken. We just play more games than we used to. Nnute, Leahy, Holtz....all coached 11-13 years. Kelly is in his 11th season. And even just 4 games into his 11th, Kelly has coached 13 more games than Holtz did in his 11 years. It will be at least 22 more games by the time this season is finished; which is basically equivalent to two more full seasons when Holtz would have been coaching. Is it me or does that sound weird and pathetic?

From outside maybe. The fans want them to be independent, and their ACC tie in is killing their SOS this year.Might be thought of more highly with some conference championships. Oklahoma fans seem pretty happy with Lincoln Riley even though he’s never won a playoff game.
which makes the Irish a perfect fit for the Big Ten!Very impressive. It’s harder at Notre Dame, academic standards are higher, schedule is hard every year, anyone they play uses them as their bowl game regardless of how good or bad their team is that year, the weather sucks, the girls are pasty, homely lookin nerds… Kelly should take the USC job, natty on a platter.
Based on WP (with ND coaches with 5 or more years) he’s 8th.
no I didn’t. Ara, Rockne, Holtz and Leahy had comparable tenures, Elmer Layden (one of the famous four horsemen who later became coach before Leahy) was next closest at 7 years. And then Dan Devine had 6.Have you counted how many years combined for the 7 ahead of him?
I give props to Kelly for having the nads to clean house of his assistants and bring in new guys to change the trajectory of the program.
Too many head coaches in the college ranks are simply keeping 'friends' employed.
Shut your mouth. Uncle Rico is a national treasure.no I didn’t. Ara, Rockne, Holtz and Leahy had comparable tenures, Elmer Layden (one of the famous four horsemen who later became coach before Leahy) was next closest at 7 years. And then Dan Devine had 6.
He probably waited a year too long on Brian Van Gorder who was one of his buddies. Jeff Quinn has been a hanger-on for a while and I think he’s had mixed results.
Ever failing upward.Shut your mouth. Uncle Rico is a national treasure.
Outside of him killing a student, he's done a terrific job there. The expectations are high at ND and he's been to the CFP multiple times, he also made it to the BCS championship too. ND will never recruit like a tosu in the midwest.. much less the power programs of the south. But he has done some solid evaluations and gets that team to play better than is expected at times.
I've always wondered how he would do at a place that also has a big name and doesn't have the tough admissions that ND has
still much different than being able to recruit at FL/Bama/GA/UTHe pretty much gets pick of the Catholic kids nationwide though. They're typically in private schools as opposed to public, so better educated.
That's a pretty big pool of kids to pick from.
Creighton Prep in Omaha literally recruits Omaha kids coming out of jr high. The wealthy Creighton alums pay their tuition.
