You get to pick either player to be the centerpiece of your defense for 15 years. Who do you pick? I always love this debate.

Bruce Smith DT/DE:
1985-2003
279 GP
1,224 tackles
426 solo (became a stat in 94)
200 sacks
INT - 2
FF - 43
.71 sacks per game
AAV - 223

Reggie White DT/DE:
1985-2000
232 GP
1,111 tackles
175 solo (became a stat in 94)
198 sacks
INT - 3
FF - 33
.85 sacks per game
AAV - 225

the solo tackles really stand out to me, smith has over 2x as many (and it became a stat in 94). i wonder what they would have had for their careers had they been equally stacked that way? smith had i think 10 years under the solo tackle stat, white maybe 5.

Smith once had 69 by himself in a season, white never had over 35.

Reggie had a year of USFL too. Assuming those aren't part of his numbers.

On size alone, I'd prolly go with White. But there isn't a wrong answer in this. Incredible players.

Probably Smith

Another potato salad option, dammit. @Rock Strongo why you hate macaroni salad?

Both greats but I favor White by a hair. Best pass rusher of all-time.

i saw bruce a lot, and i take him.

Biggest problem was he was a Bill for me. They couldn't win the big one and I never really liked any of them. Except him.

White was good but I never liked him in Philly or GB. And he had that preacher stuff going on too.

The solo tackles is a bit misleading because Smith played in a 3-4 his whole career and took a lot of snaps standing up like pseudo-OLB.

Also, he played 3 more years.

The Bills were the best team that never won. Ridiculously talented, across the board, on both sides of the ball AND Special Teams.

White by a c-hair, cuz of that.
