Cale Gundy the racist??

Any man with the name "Cale"
Cale Yarborough is pretty cool

Fired? For something like this? If it's true, then who the hell wants to be in coaching anyway? I heard lots of stuff when I was playing sports. I heard a helluva lot of stuff in the military. Then college and then when people were just being human in normal life. My black friends say as much shit as my white ones. The measuring stick I use about this kind of stuff is was it meant to be disrespectful. If it was, then you're probably wrong. If it wasn't, then you're probably not guilty of a social felony. If the players didn't back him up with Venables then there's more to the story that we have heard unless people are a whole lot more tender than they should be.

If all of this is true and there's nothing more to it, maybe it's best if he just moves on along.

He has too.. if he made just one player uncomfortable, he needs to leave. We can all argue about culture or today's society but we all have to adapt and change.. and with recruiting, this was the right call

It should have been Murray if I were an ou fan.. but since I'm not.. i'm glad he and his useless recruiting chops are still there lol

My guess is that Gundy self reported this to Venables, who did the same. If so this confirms my only possible issue with Venables, he might be too good of a person for a job like this.

Yeah I wonder if there is more to all of this, like either someone else wanted him our or he wanted out and this is the excuse they are using. A truly inadvertent use of any word isn't grounds for a firing/dismissal/resign.
Obviously there’s more to it. Who just sees any word, let alone the word in question, and unconsciously reads it loud enough that everyone in a room hears it. If that’s really what happened, he sounds too stupid to be employed, if nothing else.

He would still be employed there if his name was Brian Ferentz and his daddy was coach.
A lot like Ron Brown at Nebraska.

"A veteran college coach, Brown has a long association with Husker football, serving as an assistant coach for 24 seasons (1987-2003 and again from 2008-14)."

He's in his 5th season on Frost's staff, so 29 years without ever being more than a position coach/Analyst.

Ron Brown was offered the head coach job at Brown but turned it down.

There's obviously something else happening/happened.. It took 5 days from the incident to his late night resignation yesterday that sounded like a passive aggressive apology.

I think even ou fans deep down know it wasn't just a one time incident

We're fine without Gundy although I hate to see something like this ruin a guy's career. Something went through my mind that a couple of other people I've talked to also said they had thought about. What if this was a situation where a player had a grudge against the coach and used something like this to make a stink? Gundy was supposedly repeating something someone else said. He was wrong in today's world to give voice to the pejorative word but something tells me a player just torpedoed a coach. It's not a good look and it is concerning on several different levels. Hopefully it's a one-off and everyone just moves on.

If he wanted out I’m not sure this is how you do it. Why make yourself kryptonite to be hired somewhere else

he's like a 60 year old guy.. when do we stop making excuses, we know better, he knows better. No need to feel sorry for him.. like I said earlier..there was a 5 day period between this incident and last nights resignation.

If so, this team has some real issues.
