I mean, everyone knows I'm one of the biggest "team SEC SEC SEC" homers here, so by default I've always been an UGA fan. :dhd:

Was just reading that USC had 30-35 open spots on its roster. 30 to 35?! And LR says he has always intended to use the portal to fill most of those spots even though he admits players can leave/stay/whatever at any time under the new rules. His comments to the media indicate he is inclined to use the portal more than the recruiting of players out of high school to build his teams.

His 2022 recruiting class had 8 commits and was only ranked #59 by Rivals and #65 by 24/7.

Just think about that for a minute. He's going to do what? Every school will use portal players but USC is going to live or die with them? Hmmmmm.

yeah he's just trying to shore up what he can for this coming season.. also makes them prime hunters come the spring after schools have their practices and games.

He's going to take a lot of players straight out of high school in '23. I'd put money that they get the top class in '23.

That sounds like a great plan…for those schools that can’t compete recruiting wise for top kids straight out of high school. Not so much for those that can IMO. But hey, it is a different world now and who knows how many recruits a school will be able to keep…and for how long. It is now a carpetbagger’s world!

I had an interesting trip back from Vegas yesterday. Because of cancellations to my original reservations, I ended up on a flight back to Love Field with a couple of dozen of the players heading homefrom the East/West Shrine game Thursday night. Sat right next Baylor running back Trevean Ebner and across the aisle from a TCU o-lineman. (Didn’t recognize his name.) Their perspective of this was real interesting considering most of them stayed their whole careers at one place. (They pointed out guys from Houston, Indiana, San Diego State, North Carolina and “the Tech Brigade as they called them…Texas Tech, Va Tech, and Georgia Tech!) Talked with some of them waiting on baggage. Most of them seem like they “ have it together” for lack of a better term.

The way he has been talking is this is not a one time deal. He feels the portal is the wave of the future and the recruiting of high school talent will be less important that it has been in the past. Apparently he's more interested in seeing who has done something than what someone might be able to do. I kind of understand that approach but it's looks janky as hell when you think about having a team comprised mostly of "hired gun slingers" than recruits you have developed yourself. And I'm not sure about team cohesion either. It sounds like he's willing to live with high turnover if he can somehow patch together enough elite players. Maybe he's going to show the world he's got a new way of doing things. Top class? Kinda doubt it because his numbers will be low even if the average star rating is high.

Anyone want to take a guess at how many Clemson players Venables attempted to recruit to OU?

Uh, no they don't. I see we've reached the "making shit up" stage of the Sooner meltdown.

He said that he expects using the portal this much is a 1 time thing and that going forward he didn't expect to be using it as much.

He said that he only used it this much because he knew he was going to be too late to do much in this recruiting cycle and that between players going to the NFL, graduating and leaving through the portal, he was going to have a lot of roster spots to fill. The plan going forward is to recruit from the high schools and using the portal to plug holes.

If I recall what I read correctly, the 2023 class is currently ranked #6 in the country.

Making shit up? No. WTH is it with you anyway? Your OU hatred it nonsense. Let me know when you've actually spent the time reading sports articles in several California and Arizona papers where LR insinuated and flat out made comments that he WAS going to depend on the portal a LOT for more than just one recruiting cycle. Sheesh. I understand the confusion on some things and even the rose colored glasses but try to remember one thing: OU isn't 'butt hurt". We're more than fine with getting a fresh start. You can have the OU transfers. We even wish them the best. But for Gawd's sake try to get it through your thick head that Oklahoma football is going to flourish, like it or not. We've already landed on our feet.

It's either grossly misunderstanding what he said (intentionally or otherwise) or making shit up. You decide.

Your OU hatred it nonsense.

lol

Laughing at the Sooner meltdown is not hate, it's being entertained.

This is wrong and just you doubling down on it.

From an article yesterday:

"Arriving to SC in November, most high school kids were already committed and/or knowing where they would choose to go to school by the time Riley got here. The portal, however, was stocked with many players who were looking to go elsewhere, so the transfer portal was the way to go for Riley. It was the way to go for all new head coaches who signed on at around the same time Riley did at USC."

"Riley does, however, know that this should not always be the way USC builds its roster: Again, USC Football Head Coach Lincoln Riley had to build the class through the transfer portal this year due to the timing of his arrival at SC. After this class goes through, however, the focus will shift to where the portal will be utilized less and high school recruits will be sought after more. He'll have a full calendar year to put a class together, so he won't need to go to the portal as much."

Tell us more about how he's going to be building his teams through the portal and about all of those articles I don't read.

What the article actually insinuates is that, not unlike a pro team that will build through the draft and use free agency to plug holes...he will build through recruiting and use the portal to plug holes.

And yet, the over month long meltdown continues. If everything is fine and "Oklahoma is going to flourish"...why are you all still so focused on USC and Lincoln Riley?
