Also prior to BCS, final AP Poll is often the best indicator of the rightful National Champion so, yeah, it does kind of matter. (The Playoff Committee also follows the polls).
There’s no such Real thing as *all time ranking, and even the conversations around it don’t use final polls as some actual metric.
