EA basketball games were hot garbage.

But 2k has become nothing but micotransaction garbage so maybe EA will step up to give them some competition (though the way they treat Madden, I'm not holding my breath)

EA had the best basketball games in the PS1 era, they were actually good. The 989 games were usually mediocre-garbage (They did make some decent football games though) and the random one offs were usually pretty bad too. It went to shit pretty quick once the PS2 came around though.

Most video gaming has just became microtransaction hell that's more based on aesthetics than the actual game play. The college football game they came out last year had a ton of flaws and they released a pretty broken game that had to be "fixed" with a ton of patches to even be enjoyable, but its the only option and the first time we've had one in 10 years so a lot of people tried to act like it was better than it was. EA has no incentive really to make good sports games because the competition isn't there at all.
 
We got some competition! 2k hinting they got a game coming out too
