Back in the day, New Year's Day was the day in college football.

Started off with some lower tier bowls and then it grew into the big time games: Cotton, Sugar, Rose, Orange.

But the playoffs have spread the games out over so many different days now and made the bowls so meaningless that NYD ain't no longer that day in college football. (Been that way for a while, TBH, it's not something that has suddenly appeared out of nowhere.)

No, that day is now today. Big 12, ACC, SEC, B1G. All the main CCGs are all being played on the same day.

Today (CCG Day) is a bigger day in CFB than NYD will be.

Love it

Best year of CFB ever, thank you 12 team playoff

I just wish we didn't have to make New Year's Day irrelevant to get this.

But....

It is what it is.

Yeah, during the 4-team playoff, a NYD bowl was still a nice consolation prize. Now those games aren't even on NYD anymore. South Carolina is playing on the 31st, they might as well be in the Holiday Bowl.
