OSU had gotten hammered in big games by big plays. Michigan and Georgia games are examples. That put them in explosive play prevention. That worked with most teams OSU played. They out-talented teams. Texas plays similarly. Oregon exposed that philosophy. They have a 40 year old QB capable of consistent play. OSU has gotten more aggressive since then. That part of the Ryan Day “I am with the defense” nonsense. Blitz rates have increased and movement.
