GAME CFP ROSE BOWL: #1 OREGON DUCKS vs #8 Ohio State Buckeyes

Wonder if they will try a similar package against Texas.

Vs both Tenn and Oregon we let our front 4 dominate the line while dropping everyone else. We used a LB spy to clean up QB scrambles and Caleb Downs cleaned up the secondary.

Don't think Ewers is the same level running threat, but wouldn't be surprised if the Buckeyes used a similar tactic to make Texas sustain long drives to score. If our offense keeps playing this way tho, it'll be hard for anyone to keep up.
I don't think they use the same strategy against Texas. Texas OL is too good. Does Ohio have any speed rusher's? Those are the type of guys that give Texas OL trouble -- as you can see in the ASU game, they were outweighed by like 60 lbs a guy, but ASU was faster.

Will be an interesting game to watch. You have to be able to throw into tighter windows against Ohio and Ewers floats so many passes.

I have a feeling Texas will put Jahdae Barron (the thorpe award winner) on Smith and try to take away the deep balls. It is going to be a heck of a game. Texas was the most impressive team Michigan faced this year. Ohio looks like they are playing the best though right now.

Can't wait to see that game.

Its like where has that been for 4 years
I'm on record on this site saying -- NFL mock drafts had Sawyer going to the Lions in Mock Drafts and I said I wanted nothing to do with it. If he can play like he has the last two games -- I will take him.

Texas has NFL tackles, though their all-american LT injured his ankle against ASU. If Sawyer looks like that against Texas -- he won't even be on the board when the Lions draft.

Everybody says Texas has a great o-line, but UGA’s two most impressive pass rush performances of the season were both against Texas, and they managed like 61 rush yards on 55 attempts combined

I think it is more pass protection than rushing performance, as Texas is on their 3rd and 4th string RB's. They lost their 1st and 2nd string RB's for the year. It is why it was so shocking they ran for like 300+ yards on Clemson.

Regardless, OSU’s front 7 is better than UGA, and UGA’s front whipped Texas’s o-line in both matchups

It depends on the type of pass rushers -- that's why i asked if Ohio had any speed rushers. Those are the guys who give Texas fits. Sawyer and JTT aren't those type of pass rushers.

Georgia plays a more multiple front, but unless they have changed -- their base is a 3-4, where as Ohio State plays a 4-3. Trying to beat Texas's tackles with power isn't going to work too often. ASU gave them fits with their undersized DL because they were faster than Texas's OL. I'm guessing the speed of Georgia also is why they struggled with Georgia.

Will be interesting to see the match up.

Buckeyes have adjusted their coverage and defensive methods.

Under Jim Knowles, especially early in his tenure, they tried to create pressure through a variety of blitz packages. They got caught a lot in big plays because either the blitz didn't get home or the other team planned and prepared for it by getting the ball out quick.

Now, they aren't blitzing that much but their sacks and pressures have gone up. Why is that? Their front 6 is controlling the LOS and negating the run game. This allows them to drop in heavy coverage and they're getting a LOT of coverage sacks and pressures. Most of the past 2 games they've only rushed 4 (sometimes just 3) with a LB spying the middle. If the QB scrambles and tries to break outside, the spy crashes down.

It's working great, especially in coordination with the offense getting the team to big early leads. Other team becomes one dimensional and the line gets to pin their ears back.

I don't disagree -- Texas's OL is built along the same ilk as Michigan. Big guys, who play physical, but struggle with speed rushers.

That type of OL isn't something Ohio has had success against. Texas has had a healthy OL all year and lost 3 OL against Clemson. They got two back against ASU, but their AA LT got hurt again. They will need to get healthy quick to face Ohio.

Going to be a game of matchup styles. If Ohio is able to only use 4 in the pass rush and get pressure (I wonder where they got that idea? cough Michigan cough) I think Ohio wins. If Texas OL gives Ohio fits -- I think Texas wins.

Going to be the best game of the CFP.

Comes down to the same thing as every game. I think the 2 teams are pretty evenly matched on paper. Which team shows up and plays well and which team makes mistakes.

One thing Texas will have to correct is that they're a little turnover prone.

Ewers LOVES to throw balls that look like punts he puts so much air under them. If he does that against Ohio, he is in trouble.

I picked Texas to win it all, as they were the most complete team Michigan faced this year, but Ohio is playing the best football right now. Will come down to the match ups.

Texas OL against Ohio DL
If Ohio can pressure using only 4

Jeremiah Smith against Jahdae Barron
Freshman of the year vs Thorpe Winner

Going to be such a fun game to watch.

Ewers is quick to get rattled and even quicker to throw flutterballs. Kid doesn't handle pressure well, so if you can get a lead on him its church.

Watching the deep ball thrown by Ewers and then the deep ball thrown by the backup from Georgia.

You want something in between the two. Ewers brings rain on his throws and gives safeties and CBs time to make plays on balls they shouldn't be able to

The Georgia kid looks like he throws his deep balls 100 mph on a line. He was accurate on the few he threw, but you have to put a little under it to let the Wr make a play

That's pretty accurate. Dillion Gabriel even beat him head to head last year.
