CFP wussed out

This is another thing that needs to be fixed, imo. Coaches should not be allowed to contact players in the portal unless the player contacts them first. And they for sure shouldn't be allowed to contact kids who aren't in the portal.
Even if the other schools aren't talking to the players, the players will talk. "did you hear, player XYZ just got $$$ from a school" is a heck of an incentive for a teenager to try their hand.

So the semi finals next week are Thursday and Friday to avoid competing with the nfl playoff on Saturday. I think nfl playoff games that are on streaming devices or peacock or something.

CFB should’ve grown a pair and put both games on Saturday. Even if they were worried about competition with the nfl they could’ve put their games within time slots that would either avoid the nfl game or the CFB game second half would be on during the first half of the nfl game.

Seriously, CFB would own the day. No need for the CFB semis to fear the first round of the NFL playoffs. By the playoffs everyone’s fantasy football teams seasons are over so interest diminishes greatly.

Instead we’re stuck with a Thursday and Friday night game?
Would I rather watch CFB over an NFL game? Yes, and all day. But based on ratings of college games vs. NFL games there is no competition, the NFL slays college in viewership. In fact, the playoff games specifically have had pretty low viewership numbers which is disappointing given the outcry for a playoff system. But an Indiana vs. ND match on a Friday evening is a pretty tough sell.

I agree. Also, if the team is "active" as in still playing in the post season players should be off the table unless they enter the portal. And if they do enter, they should no longer be on the active roster for their current team.

I think the portal window needs to be more clearly defined, similar to the semester schedules that schools typically follow.

Only way I’d watch a CFB playoff game over an NFL playoff game would be UGA is playing in the CFB playoff game. I love college football, but the NFL playoffs are the best sports have to offer, and I say this as a guy who’s NFL team hasn’t made the playoffs in 6 years and has the biggest choke in Super Bowl history
I have to say I am surprised to hear you say this. I am not disagreeing but I always got the impression you were a major CFB fan

Imo, the portal should be closed until after the NC game. Then close it again after a month or 2. Then open it again for a month or so after spring practice. Then it stays closed until after the NC game. Players shouldn't be "shutting it down" and entering the portal during the season.

I agree. So back in the dark ages, you would see players transfer but it was after the season concluded for their current team. They would transfer between the academic semesters. If you think about it, once spring ball concludes that it pretty close to the end of the spring semester so allowing for another transfer window would make sense.

Here is a question that I honestly do not know the answer to:

If a player who is receiving NIL money transfers? Do they keep that money? Is that an agreement between them and who is paying? Could the day or more formal contracts for NIL dictate those terms?

I’ll always be a UGA diehard, but I’ve became more of an NFL fan the last few years. Mega conferences and free agency don’t sit well with me

I'm sure they keep what they already have received...I assume that whether they get to keep their NIL deal when they transfer would be determined by the company they have the deal with.

For example, I've seen USC women's basketball player Juju Watkins in State Farm Insurance commercials. I assume that they really don't care who she plays for, so if she were to transfer, she'd probably keep that deal...but something that came from a company that is directly tied to her being at USC would likely be terminated.

The NIL thing seems to be a good bit different than I thought it was supposed to be. For example, the schools seem to be more involved than I thought they were supposed to be. I even heard a talk show where they were saying that coaches are like GM's in deciding how much of the schools NIL money goes to each player and that often, a kids transfer decision comes down to another coach being willing to give him more money.

That's kind of where I'm headed. Still prefer cfb, but it's changing. I don't mind the mega-conferences too much (I'll eventually get used to USC being in the B1G)...but they need to seriously rein in the transfer portal and NIL stuff. It's literally becoming everything that folks who were opposed to the players getting paid were warning everyone about.

Yeah, unfortunately there's really no way to stop players from talking and no way to prevent them from recruiting other players. But at the least, they can tweak things to make it better than the wild, wild west that it currently is.

I'm a college over NFL guy but I will readily admit that NFL is king when it comes to viewers.
I am too but the NFL is converting me because this out of control NIL and portal are making me care less about CFB. You can’t run any kind of sport with no salary cap and complete unrestricted free agency.

There are restrictions to fa. You just dont like what they are.

In reality there aren’t. They are trying to create some that are effective but it’s not going to work.

The NFL is more money hungry than college football...which is saying quite a bit. Both the NFL and the NFLPA seem to be selling players health down the river for the dollar. No way anyone can convince me those players don't need 6-7 days to fully recover from the previous game. They play on Sundays/Mondays all year long. They could give up Saturdays in December and January.

The data proves this. First consider the average career is a little over 3 years. Next, look at the long term health issues most of these guys deal with after football. The lineman alone are walking test cases for experimentation. 6'1 325? That isn't healthy and then add the physical trauma they experience in a game.

Former Browns lineman Joe Thomas is a great example. He was having to force himself to consume 3k calories a day because that was what was necessary to be a lineman. Look at him now, and he is a totally different person physically.
