Changing Teams

I picked up the NY Rangers (in addition to the Leafs not instead of) for a while originally because Adam Graves was a friend/mentor and then I kept them for a bit after he left because I was living there.

I've always been a Blue Jays fan but I've usually had an NL team too, during the Killer Bs era it was the Astros because Craig Biggio was my favourite player. I switched to the Brewers when I started playing in my sim league as them in 2006. There was a dispersal draft so it was just website logo and in-game stadium and I didn't have to start with their roster but my co-owner is a huge fan and he got me on board. They've had a lot of likable guys too I think, my current fave is Brent Suter (and he is actually on my sim league team too).

Football I was a huge 49ers fan as a kid because I started watching football in 1984 and I thought Joe Montana was the greatest thing I'd ever seen but with no home team I've found as an adult that I end up liking and cheering for individual players. Fantasy is probably partially to "blame" for this too.

With no home team I loved Larry Bird and the Celtics when I was really young. I switched to the Orlando Magic for totally superficial reasons, I loved their colour scheme and apparel  I had a Dennis Scott jersey and I was so happy when they won the lottery and were able to draft Shaq because I didn't have to defend a dogshit team anymore (I actually designed and screened a t-shirt in art class commemorating their 17 game losing streak in 1991-92  ) . I didn't pick up the Raptors right away when Toronto got them but have become a fan.

Rugby I've only had one team, I've been cheering for the Leicester Tigers since I started following it. They are kinda like the Yankees over there but lately they have been looking more like the 1980s Yankees.

Time for some honesty boys and girls.

Has anyone changed their favorite team over the years? Anyone grow up loving the Celtics, and then was full on MJ and the Bulls, or to move to Golden State and now considering the Lakers for your new fan gear?

Curious if anyone has and a brief story as to why the change was made.

I did it.

I grew up in Atlanta, but grew up a White Sox fan after meeting Frank Thomas his 2nd year in the pros down in Sarasota, FL (where they used to do Spring Training). I followed them for decades, including their amazing World Series run, but as I have gotten older, I watch and feel more connected to the Braves for obvious reasons. I still like the Chi Sox, but if I could watch anybody, it'd be the Atlanta Braves all day.

That's it for me.

You guys/girls have any stories you are willing to share?

I am a shameless homer from Detroit who graduated from the University of Michigan ... I may have secondary teams from time to time which are fluid, but the home teams are always first!!

fuck no.

that's pathetic.

Was a Raiders fan cuz of Bo Jackson and i liked the colors and emblem/mascot. I have never really been huge into the NFL. I root for the wifes team being she is from Washington so Seattle (sometimes ill root for the Huskies depends on my mood) I Root against Cowboys, Patriots, (Tampa Bay now), Greenbay. I have tried getting back on the Raiders but fucking blackouts makes it hard to watch teams that arent Greenbay Minnesota or KC it seems a lot of times.

I have found myself really enjoying watching Mahomes, everyone around here thinks you gotta be a KC fan cuz of proximity and i never particularly cared, but of most the NFL QB's the guy seems pretty genuine so i do root for them when they are playing.

Nothing will ever compare to the loyalty i have for Nebraska, through thick and thin i cheer them on regardless (and it is painful)

Kudos to you.

Yeah, I didn't dislike the Braves growing up, just as a kid I looked up to Frank Thomas, but since he has retired, I am I homer fan boy that graduated from Alabama.

I’ve by and large remained loyal to my NY teams and ND. I was more of a flyers fan growing up
but started following the Devils when their minor league team came to my town.

The Albany River Rats?

Not since I was a youngster. When I was little my favorite baseball player was Jose Canseco do my favorite team was the A's. Always been a Mavs and Cowboys fan, same with Stars once they arrived and I discovered the NHL. But when Canseco was traded to the Rangers I started to follow them and never strayed.

I grew up a fan of all muh KanBraska teams but also Boston pro teams. Precipitated by the Larry Celtics, the lore of the Red Sox, and the Grogan/Fryar Pats. And also my Dad went to Boston for a medical conference when I was little and brought back a bunch of Boston sports swag (my daughter still wears the Celtics shirt).
As I've gotten older I favor my KanBraska teams more and more but still root for the Boston teams to a lesser extent. Was also a HUGE Jordan Bulls fan. I still own multiple pairs of Air Jordans.

My personal belief is once you start rooting for a certain team you stick with 'em through thick and thin. anything else had bandwaoner written all over it imo...
