why do you keep saying schools pay for this when they don't. It's boosters/alumni and even fans. So why would the schools care about return investment when they aren't the ones shelling out the dollars other than scholarships and staff payrolls?

Yes, it's definitely the boosters/alumni, etc. I'm using "schools" as a catchall phrase. OU and UT aren't doing the dirty work directly; it's the people who support them. It's a small difference but you're right.....(although the schools and boosters are working in tandem). Bottom line nothing changes though whether it's the school or the boosters buying players. I'll try to be more clear in the future with my comments.
