The guy just isn't embarrassing the current state of college football and they are starting to fall behind. Here is a quote from the attached article:

“The majority of the guys, they’re guys that are in the portal because they want to have a chance to go start somewhere. They’re not playing where they are. They’re not good enough to play for us. So, we’d rather take a good high school player, as long as we can get them, which we do. And you develop them. That’s the first type.

The second type of guy that goes in the portal is, he’s only going in the portal as a formality because the deal has already been done. He knows where he’s going before he ever goes in the portal. So we’re not getting that guy.

“The third type of guy that’s going in the portal just to see what we can get. And we’re never going to win that war.”

We are at the point where no one is winning a national championship without at least a few great portal additions it just isn't going to happen and publically stating that you aren't willing to compete in the bidding for the best players out there is just insane and delusional to think you will compete with that attitude. Note: Clemson is the only D1 school that is not a service academy that did not add a transfer this year.

The problem is I don't think Clemson can afford to get rid of him if he doesn't want to leave:

If Swinney had a flat buyout fee of $15 million, that contract wouldn’t be worth discussing. But it’s nothing close to that. Here are the buyout terms if he’s fired (H/T ESPN):
  • 2024: $60 million
  • 2025: $60 million
  • 2026: $57 million
  • 2027-31: Remainder of contract (it starts at $48.8 million in 2027 by my math)
So Swinney could spend another 4 seasons at Clemson and the Tigers would still owe him nearly $50 million if they wanted to fire him. Yikes.

the part that says they arent good enough to play for us is the biggest cringe.

anyone who is transferring to top 25 teams is more than good enough to play at Clemson.
some of the guys transferring out of top 25 schools ending up outside that are also probably plenty good enough.

We took at least 4 or 5 guys that would be in the 2 deep, several would be starters. RB ETN from UF would start for them. Our TE from Stanford would. At least one of the WRs we've take the last 2 years would start for them, probably 2 of them.

Dabo's shtick got old a long time ago. Imagine what it will be like when he has to play a B1G or SEC schedule.

No one is winning a national championship these days with out at least a few quality transfers.

Dabo has stuck his head in the sand and honestly the AD needs to step in and hire someone to do roster management for him. Take the ability to make these decisions out of his hands and if Dabo doesn’t like it tell him to quit.

It’s kinda sad because they achieved so much, are already in decline and these type of articles are going to send recruits to other places as well as close the door on transfers.

For the record I think the world of Dabo as a person and would pick him to coach my kid over just about anyone in the business but his attitude on transfers and NIL is program suicide.

Yeah, he's a goober, but I've never met anyone who has met him that wasn't impressed.

Maybe he's burned out and just doesn't want to work that hard.

One dislikes to observe it

Good luck with that

I've been trying to get Brad Brownell fired for the last 13 years

its not even that. he says "woulnd't play for us" really? like they couldnt get a good short down back or slot? a good 4 or 5 WR? back up DL or nickel or dime guy?

what are you talking about? I think he's doing a kick ass job for Clemson

Dude hasn't even been able to make it to the CFP playing in the ACC since 2020 and he thinks kids in the portal going to OSU or Georgia aren't good enough to play at Clemson. Good lord.

So Judkins or ETN couldn’t play RB for Clemson?
Who was/is their RB again?

Coleman wouldn’t have helped that WR group?

To his defense tho same with Brian Kelly and his DL misses, it makes em look inept if they were to tell the truth and say “we just couldn’t sell the program and/or produce enough money to persuade em to come here” ect. But still, this just makes em sound dumb, stubborn or both.

50 mil buyout is easy enough
It's just that a lot reasons we can afford the buyout is because of Dabo.
Just remember the annual contributions was ~10M when he took over and most schools don't even hit 50M a year

he'll probably retire within the next five years.
