Neat, I can feel better that Mizzou lost a close one to Oklahoma in the first round because instead of winning a tournament game for the first time in a decade the alternative was get crushed by Gonzaga.

If this isnt an absolute massacre in favor of the Final Four appearance, we gotta consider shutting down the Hoop.

Looks like the reputation of the site is safe.

I don’t really care about roundball, but I wanna as many games as possible in any sport. You can’t pull off an upset if you’re not in the game at all

Trying to respond, what exactly constitutes a massacre?

I mean considering this first four 11 seed is facing an undefeated 1 seed with their first ever chance in the FF, I'd guess even a double digit loss of 20 might seem less than a massacre.........

What do you think is a 'massacre' in this scenario @wazzu31 ?

The Zags did just beat No 6 by 19, a No 5 by 18, & No 8 by 16.

What does a massacre to a play-in No 11 look like for an undefeated Gonzaga just a game away from the NT game?
I guess my definition of massacre would be getting embarrassed. But are you trying to pretend UCLA is a George Mason? A legitimate Cinderella being happy to just get to the Final 4 should be a little different than a school who’s coaching staff salary is barely below an athletic department budget as lower tier schools no?

I'd much rather get crushed in the Elite 8 (like we did lol) than lose a close one in the Sweet 16.

There are a couple of reasons for that...

1. Before the season, I didn't expect USC to even make the tournament. So going to the Elite 8 makes it a great season, imo, regardless of how it ended.

2. Losing a close one means an off-season of "What if's?" and speculation. This kind of ending prevents that and lets the team focus on what they have to do to get better.
Well that was what my question was. Was losing a close loss in the elite 8, which you still say all the what if’s. Or going to the Final 4 and getting boatraced.

As usual, you articulate my question a lot better than I.

Awe, so you are actually challenging the 11 seeding?

With that, I think you may be getting close....

Like it or not they are the 11 seed, not only an 11 seed rather a play-in first four 11 seed, which puts Cindy another village away than any other seed not in the first four.

As for Mick and his salary, he has been at UCLA for less than 2 years, so this is his second season where many were saying Alford left the cupboards bare. Add in the Covid scenario and we now are seeing only 1's and 2's and 11 seed UCLA in the FF.

I've heard every round, save ACU, how the Bruins were just not going to be able to hang, yet here they are.

As with most every other round, I've expected little and kept my fingers crossed.

Will that work come Saturday? IDK I even have my greatest doubts to date, but as I wont be shocked if the Zags blow it out, I wont be schocked if they keep it close enough to keep it interesting............

Of course he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. This is the same dipshit who didn’t know if he’d rather make the Final Four or lose in the elite 8

I'm sure the players, all with a piece of the net, care about winning the E8 game!

I'm wondering if Houston and/or Baylor will try to lose a close Final Four match-up so they wont get embarrassed on a National stage in the Title game???????

:dhd:

Man isn’t every Houston fan just wondering why the hell didn’t they just lose their E8 game right about now????

And Baylor fans.... Damn aren’t they just wondering why in the hell their team didn’t just lose today since they are just going to get embarrassed come Monday...

The retard who started this thread probably thinks Houston had the preferable outcome today

I apologize. Whatever the word worst than underestimate is, that is what I did. Your players were great, and your coach is a genius.

I appreciate the apology wazzu. If it makes you feel better, I just heard Metta World Peace say this about the game...... "You almost want to lose in a blowout, like Houston, than to lose this way."

With that however, If he said that around me, I would half to give him the same amount of grief as I gave you.

All you can ask for is your best effort and a shot to move on. The Bruins had theirs in regulation and came up short, then still brought it back in OT forcing the miracle shot to beat them.

The effort you guys gave was nearly amazing, miraculous, or insert adjectives. You guys played nearly a flawless game, obviously a few things here or there, but near flawless. The 1st half it seemed like the big three for Gonzaga didn’t play that well but they did go off in the 2nd half and regulation and you guys went toe to toe with them when they were at their peak so it’s not like you lost to them at their worst. It took IMO a better Laettner shot to beat you tonight. Plus your coach is a boss with that gameplan of punching the bully in the mouth and continuing to punch them in the mouth. Gonzaga’s offense is what it is, but you made their defense look like nothing special.

Better question would be heartbreak Final Four loss or blow out Final Four loss. Because obviously people are going to vote to get to the Final Four, but would you rather lose on a last second shot, in which you spend the rest of time analyzing every single small play, knowing that if anything else in that game went the other way you win. Or know the game is over by halftime and take the time to digest your season is over but at least you made it that far.

Close game without a doubt.

The worst is probably getting blown out when you were the higher seed.

The heartache and constant wondering of replaying the entire game in your head for years would be too much. Much rather realize the thing was over and simply we were over matched as opposed to losing by a buzzer beater or 1-2 pt game.
