Coaching Carousel

I love Smith. He was solid as OC for UW and he has fully transformed a second tier (3rd?) P5 team into a top 25 program.

He will get offers given that the beavs aren't going to be able to pay him if they end up dropping to G5 money.

It's his Alma Mater though so maybe he stays?

His Alma Mater is about to be in the MWC and UCLA is going to be in the Big Ten. I'm betting Smith takes the job if offered

He's a hard dude to gage. I'm not betting against it at all. He's going to get offers and be a great coach for someone.

Hell, I'd take him if DeBoer ended up leaving.

I've thought about that as well. It would make a lot of sense for both sides.

Nah, he’s fine. Transition year, he’s there til he wants to hang it up… which will probably be when those midwestern winds in November/December cut him in two.

In his presser the other day they asked him about other schools/jobs. You never expect them to say they are taking offers so normally it's not a great question. I'm this case he acknowledged our AD is working on not only a new package for him, but the whole staff.

He got a new contract last year as well. They trying to lock him up.

The one thing we have going for us is his daughter just signed with UW softball. Hard to see him leaving as long as she's there. And while they can offer her as well, she's supposed to be pretty good. Better be a top flight football and softball school.

Does UCLA really want to enter a new conference with a brand new coach ??

Isn't UCLA deeply on debt?

Might not be going for more wins, but less salary.

If he gets offered he will go. He will get at least a 5-year 6mm guaranteed contract so you almost have to.

The problem with the aTm job their fans think all the pieces are thee including talent so they will want to win out of the gate. It's a tough job and all the NIL money in the world ain't going to make it easier.

not everyone is driven by money. some are comfortable with what they make where they are.

Smith will have options closer to home. Maybe UCLA.

Communists.
But I agree. Most "normal" people can get by for the rest of their lives on a $10 million next egg. Except my youngest daughter. She needs a lot.

Jonathan Smith or Fisch
I get OSU's future is on shaky ground, but wasn't OSU kind of Smith's dream job? He can for sure land somewhere at least as good as UCLA down the road if he wants to wait it out and see if OSU and WSU can salvage something with the MW.

He was an okay OC, we grumbled about him plenty though. He's more than proven himself as a head coach though, as far as I'm concerned.

Looks like Northwestern is off the table. Seem to be naming their interim coach as that actual HC going forward.
