Nah he's going to X. That was a prov twitter troll account that posted it.

I think Nova is really interested in Willard.

Agreed. I think Nova wants Willard as well @jontaejones . Would be a really nice hire. If they don't get him, I'm not sure where they go. Maybe Chris Collins? What about Beard? It'd be an odd fit, but a program of Nova's stature should be going after the best.

I'm a little relieved to be honest.

What did you think of Pitino as a coach?

I honestly have no clue who will land the job

Willard doesn't excite me at all, I'd honestly rather have Mack. However, in the long term, I want someone who can keep guys in the program

I thought Pitino did an alright job at Minnesota. The 2018 team was hurt because Coffey and Lynch missed half the season. The 2020 and 2021 seasons were loaded in the B1G. If Carr would have been eligible in 2019 (like we all thought) I think that could have been a S16 team. I'd probably give him a B-. But I will say I think given this era, he'll be better than what he was at Minnesota.

looks like Maryland fans think Williard is gone.

lmao, this is a hilarious response

Smoke about Buzz Williams to Maryland

He's a very good coach but he's also a merc. Comes in, does the job, bounces. So Maryland has to know going in this won't be long term. They have 5 to 6 years max

Would make sense since he doesn't stay at a place more than 6 years. I thought he might be looking to leave.

5-6 years IS very long term nowadays!
Buzz is one of the better Xs & Os coaches in the SEC. You can beat him with better athletes but he is rarely out coached.

That being said he is a lot to take and I imagine if he isn’t winning hardware his welcome gets a little chilly. On the flip side it’s going to be hard to find a school that has the resources aTm has and as willing to cut checks.

I’m not sure I would sacrifice NIL money to change schools.

Williard is leaving Maryland because they have a bad NIL situation. and Buzz Williams left Marquette for Virginia Tech. lmao. he clearly doesn't give a fuck.

Maryland hasn't been on my radar since they left the ACC. I never think about them anymore and I doubt i'm the only one. From a branding standpoint, they are boring without Virginia, Duke, UNC and even NC State. and whoever made the decision to ditch the "fear the turtle" logo for the generic M (that seems to be common in the Big Ten) logo should be executed.

apparently their fans HATED Turgeon and I have no idea why.

i assumed they were in a good financial position and would be in a good place for the NIL era because the Under Armour guy is an influential alum. Looks like I assumed wrong.

Williams would be looking to get out. He's already hit his expiration date at aTm where in with past schools, he's looking to move. He runs his programs on 5 year cycles and after the 5th year, there's usually nothing left and you're at the bottom again which is why he doesn't stick around. There were rumors a couple months ago he was sniffing around the Indiana job but they went in a different direction. Given his history and the rumors, I'd definitely lean towards him looking to get out of Aggieland. It's just what he does.

I saw a post the other day that said they had 3 mil in NIL this season which seems to be about average, possibly a little on the low side. You would expect a school with a basketball history like Maryland to have more. It then went on to say they don't expect have much more next season which is wild considering they're a Big Ten team and with rev sharing/NIL combined, they shouldn't be cash strapped. You had that post the other day in the ACC thread where we were talking about ACC funds with UNC and Duke being over 10 and some other schools like Louisville being 8 to 10, I don't see many reasons why a Big Ten or SEC team that's serious about basketball should be at least at those levels considering how much cash those leagues make. You gotta be jack shit at your job if Maryland can't have at least 8 mil for basketball funding

MD has had money problems for the last 15 years. Their athletic department was extremely poorly run. That's why they joined the B1G. Sure they'll make more money in the long run, but it's caused a huge amount of fan apathy. I know a bunch of Terps fans, and everyone hated the move, and they simply don't care as much now. They'll never be a fit in the B1G. It's tough to get donors when they don't care. One of the founders of Google did undergrad at MD, he could literally write them a check for $500m and it'd be like me giving the Gophers $5 bucks. Lol.

yep. a good portion of sports fandom is hating the enemy. Terps don't have any enemies in the Big Ten.

when i read OGBoards, i legitimately think some of those people would prefer to watch UNC or Duke lose than watch the Deacs win.

They're trying to manufacture something with PSU in football but it doesn't help they lose by 40 every time they play, and then in bball is so far beneath them. There's just nothing there and there never will be. It's been 12 years since they left and every year removed is another year of more apathy. They've even had some really good teams, at least in bball, but the fans just don't give a shit. Maybe Willard leaving will be a rallying cry for the fan base to make them hate something again. Lol.
