Congratulations to Oregon Head Coach Dan Lanning

Yeah, OK.

A HC with no experience, who's hand as DC at Georgia was being held by Kirby and Muschamp.
An OC with awful numbers in his 2 years at P5 FSU.
A DC with minimal experience.

Both OC and DC are buddies from previous G5 jobs. 'Spread the wealth!!'

A recipe for disaster which has been proven time and time again. Like 95% of the time or even higher when there are Natty aspirations.

Edited: Tosh Lupoi has some DC experience. I was under the impression their DC was from Baylor, but I guess he's Co-DC.

This is the guy I was referring to that is a Lanning G5 buddy and "co-defensive coordinator" with no experience in the position.

Saw a stat the other day that I found hilarious.

That was as a head coach tho, right?

In over his head like many P5 coordinators that make the jump to HC.

As an 'analyst' at Georgia he could get back to focusing on one thing and that was defense.
i.e. Holding Lanning's hand for Kirby.

ND didn't have much movement from it's current roster heading into the portal. He kept the OC too. Freeman will be ok.

Dan has brought Tosh Lupoi who is a bagman legend, but also been in the NFL the past 3 years. He also brings in Klemm from the Steelers to coach the OL. Powledge or whatever from Baylor is such a sneaky good hire. Baylor's safeties have been the best the past two seasons under he and Aranda. Even with a losing record their first season, the safeties were above avg, and this past season they were elite.

The recruiting isn't going to drop off at Oregon, just look at who they have gotten through the portal in the recent weeks. This team is going to be really good along the trenches. They still have an elite LB group coming back, and with his coaching, they should really turn the corner.

I'm higher on Freeman and Lanning than I am with BV at ou.

So many great OC/DC's just aren't good at HC, but walk around HC or trying to still be a coordinator. Never ceases to amaze me at how many try the HC route multiple times.

what coordinators are coming from G5?

it's the top of the college profession.. even if you fail and become a Bama analyst then Coordinator again, you aim high right?

my man, the path for ND and Oregon are both there and it's not exactly murderer's row to get into a CFP spot as we have seen in the past. They don't have to come in and be gang busters in order to get in, like the way Napier and BK will have too.
Time will tell though

Not sure the influence of 'bagmen' with the onset of NIL?
My understanding is that Knight had little if any influence in Lanning's hire.

The fact is Lanning has to be able to put the pieces together regardless of money and assistants. You've got to get players lined up right and to play disciplined.

Hard to believe I'm debating a longhorn fan over this.
With the resources that tejas has... Nobody underachieves like they do. NOBODY!!

Texas AM could finish 8-4 and still be ranked 9th
It should be pointed out that currently there are four 4 loss teams that are ranked, two are from the PAC, one from the SEC and one from the Big10. The highest ranked one is #12 and it is Utah.

TexasAM is 8-4 and currently unranked.

my man, they're all a risk other than Saban, Meyer, or Dabo and I haven't seen anyone pick them up.

I've said it before and I'll say it again and again.... The pile of carcasses that were successful G5 HC's or P5 coordinators, and made the jump to P5 HC only to fail miserably is deep.

Odd year though. Go back and look at other final polls and the number of 4 loss teams.
tejas finished Top 10 (#9) with 4 losses in 2018.

Occasionally 5 loss teams finish Top 25.

Loving the haters in this thread. They are affiliated with teams with either zero hope of even getting close to the CFP's, or just had a season where Oregon came to their house and beat them. Oregon plays Georgia in a "neutral site" game to open the season in Atlanta, Georgia. Although I think the Ducks can win, I think it's pretty obvious that the loser of that game is nowhere near out of the CFP. It's really a win-win game, it boosts both teams resume's win or lose.

Avy bet Nebraska finished higher ranked than Oregon next year? 2 weeks.

I seriously don't think I could find Eugene on a map right now if you gave me one.

I can find Mill City, OR.
I had an uncle that lived there and we visited a few times when I was a kid. He had an awesome acreage.
He's long since pushin' up daisies, but I still have cousins there. The acreage is still in the family.

The Peter principle is a thing for a reason. I prefer to stop where I'm good, not repeatedly fail.
