This starts today at 2 PM PST. Brazil vs Venezuela. On the big FOX network in the Bay Area. Venezuala 12 COVID positives yesterday. Tournament could be shit show with COVID still running rampant down there. At least it is on a real network here unlike the South American World Cup qualifiers. No where to be found those.

this tournament is so much harder to watch compared to the euros

They should have brought this tournament here so they can have crowds. This is sad

Who was the idiot broadcasting the game on FOX today? It was a one man 90 minute propaganda spiel for the MLS. He kept bloviating about the 3 MLS players on Venezuela . He could not mention their names without saying "of the Philadelphia Union", or DC United. Kept babbling MLS players in South America. Over and over again. STFU. I watched this game today to see "Neymar of PSG", "Jesus of Man City", "Alisson of Liverpool",etc not some rinky dink second fiddle MLS scrub. No one cares.

P.S. Doesn't say much if you are in MLS and playing for Venezuela when top players are injured or one of 12 suspended for COVID can't play. Venezuela has never made the World Cup so it doesn't say much for MLS in regards to Venezuela.

So no wonder, I think it was this moron...

Why the grass in South America always look shitty?

Not sure. Maybe the rain. That was a pretty weak penalty in Vidal today. Argentina should have won.

Is it fox or espn that has the dude who English is his second language and he basically speaks Spanglish. He was so bad it became comical as fuck last tournament. And everytime anyone scored it was “goaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllllllllllll (insert players name) ...... goooooooaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllll (Insert country name)” every single fucking time. He was the true MVP.

As for the grass. Brazil literally had less than two weeks to prep for the tournament. It was originally supposed to be in Colombia and Argentina, but due to Covid, it got changed at the last second, and most of the matches are in stadiums that are in the middle of the Brazilian League, so they aren't the best looking right now, most of the time, the top stadiums turf is great looking.

Yeah, the Fox announcers suck, as usual.

I think the Copa is Brazil's to lose, Argentina not enough at the back to win it. I think Uruguay. who always punch above their weight, could actually contend for the title.

It's a big difference watching Euro and then this. I'm watching them all of course but the style differences are noticeable.

And for the record, the free kick Messi scored on yesterday was sweet.

The Copa is sorely missing fans this year. The fans are one of the things that make South American football so great.

Yup. The congas drums, etc.

In 1978 before all the WC games were televised on TSN up here I made the Haj to Vancouver for a closed circuit broadcast of 2nd round games.

The 2 games I saw were Peru vs Poland and Argentina vs Brazil.

Even in the arena I was watching in the conga drums and colourful fans were in abundance.

Argentina/Brazil drew 0-0 but the fans had a ball.

It is FOX. John Strong is the broadcaster and he is FOX leading MLS broadcaster. His ego is getting in the way and he has spent too much time with MLS that 3 Venezuela scrubs who play in MLS become the highlight of his broadcast. He needs to be reeled in quickly. Different audience here for COPA America. It is not COPA MLS.

1978 was the first World Cup I saw on TV Local Spanish Channel pre-cable at my house. I think we had like 7 VHF channels and like 3 or 4 UHF. If the antenna was right you get a fuzzy Monterrey or Sacramento channel too. 1978 weird year for Sports TV. PBS broadast the NHL Final. Good ole days. When kids whine there is nothing on TV these days, send them in a time machine to 1978.

I go back even further but...

The closed circuit boradcast was a similar format to the boxing matches of the day. Big venue, murky picture...

Didn't break the bank to see those 2 games. But if I'd wanted to see every game it would have been cost prohibitive.

Now in the PVR age, time zones allow me to see it all even if I'm sleeping when it's live. When they have 2 games simultaneously like they will shortly it is no big deal. As long as the announcers keep their yaps shut.

I love TV today. Or rather what I can view on it. And what I view it on.

My paternal grandfather had the 2nd TV in town when they first came out. The TV store owner had the other. I come by it honestly.

I am actually enjoying watching Neymar in this tournament. Overall looks very good. That little dance he did yesterday was hilarious, until Peru finally said fuck you let's foul him.

Tonight Messi vs Suarez/Cavani.

I've had a full day.

3 Euro games, some yard work, replaced a hood strut on my Audi, fixed 2 sundeck stairs,, currently watching P2 F1 from France, 2 COPA games for my evening.

I love my PVR.

Messi again tonight. Argentina has been a bit boring so far. I expected more fireworks in that Argentina Uruguay but it was quiet. Uruguay was petty in their attack.

Paraguay won't be a gimme for Argentina. Uruguay v Chile could be either really really good, or really really boring.
