completely agree (mostly)98 out of 100 times, the cat runs the fuck off like the bitch that it is. Seriously. You startle it/stumble upon it, and it feels cornered, maybe yer gonna get some scratches. The likelihood of it killing you is as close to 0% as it gets.
I think there has been less than 30 document fatal encounters in the past 100 years. Almost all of those were children.
You are more likely to be killed by lightning.
Had a buddy who was hunting (deer) & wasnt even alone when a cat attacked him. His buddy screamed look out. He tucked rolled & shot (with pure luck) the cougar who was airborne. He has the pelt to this day.
They assume their was something wrong with that cat. Since it isnt a normal reaction for a cat.
