Stephen Smith says that it doesn't help the promotion of MLB baseball that the leading face of tonight's homerun derby is a guy who needs a translator?

Could a white journalist have said the exact same thing without some social justice warrior calling him a racist?

Well, Stephen's not wrong. It's much easier to get soundbites and whatnot without a translator.

Most pro athletes aren't really known for their public speaking skills anyway.

Plus, what's the point in even doing interviews with media folk at all? Most of it is just a bunch of generalized, vague, over-used buzzwords and cliches that we've all heard a million times.

- "We gotta play 'em one day at a time."

- "I'm just happy to be here. Hope I can help the ball club."

- "I just wanna give it my best shot and, the good Lord willing, things will work out."

Can’t listen to that angry black for longer than three seconds, but he isn’t wrong on this.

Ángels have two of the best talents in baseball. One is boring and has been on roids since Junior high, the other is foreign. Negligible impact on growth from both.

We never stopped believing in ourselves

Oh, and white people are some fuckin' weird MFers, dude.

Some socially awkward, pale-faced putz would've definitely fucked up the whole thing. Probably end up taking a selfie or some shit in the middle of a live show.

With the inane questions they are asked, WTH can they say.

Just say his name already.

Max Kellerman.

Stephen A. completely misses the point once again, 99% of us don't give a rat's ass what the players have to say.

Normal people only want to watch the game and don't care what young, uneducated kids have to say.

No. A white "journalist" could not have gotten away with saying that.

But the kids like it

So add baseball to the list of sports he doesn’t know about but pretends.

Meh. It's Stephen Asshole Smith. Never mind that foreign-born baseball players with interpreters have been around for decades- we all know what Smith meant. The "dog whistle" was clearly because it's a dominant Asian player. There'd be zero controversy to stir up, if the guy was Dominican or Cuban and used an interpreter.

This outrage is what the guy wants. He probably has a team of people figuring out how many offensive comments he can generate in a 24 hr news cycle, while straddling the line of what's acceptable and what's cancellable.

It's only baseball so IDGAF.

This is why I say who cares about this whole deal. Mike Trout has the personality of a wet blanket and Bryce Harper spent his first few years being an insufferable asshole. As long as they're fun to watch that's what matters (not to mention it's a sport where Spanish speakers have been a face or the face of the game so it being nothing new is why this is a really weird take from Stephen A).
