I don't know about anyone else, but there was a time where I genuinely enjoyed watching the NFL as a fan, I was a fan of the 49ers and followed them. Now, college football was always my true passion and fandom, but I enjoyed watching the NFL on Sunday's and followed the Niners. But around the early 2000's? or so I lost interest in the NFL, to me the college game had become so much more fun and exciting and the NFL seemed stuck in HB tosses and HB dives up the middle for a total gain of 2 yards and it was just a boring product. I sort of tuned out the NFL completely in the mid early 2000's.
But then came my true introduction to fantasy football and my interest in the NFL absolutely grew. By this time I had become distant from the Niners, so I didn't really care about their production, all I cared about was if a certain RB from a certain team scored a touchdown. As time has gone on, I'm way more involved in fantasy football and care less and less about any particular team. This thought came to my mind yesterday as I was watching the 4-10 Rams destroy the 4-10 Broncos by some 30 points. I asked myself, "Why the F am I watching this garbage?" And the only reason I was fully invested, fully engaged on every single play, was because of Fantasy Football. Otherwise there is zero reason to watch such a terrible game and really hardly any reason to watch majority of NFL games on Sunday, like who is interested in the Panthers vs Falcons? No one, unless you got Foreman as a RB or going aginst him, or Allegier, etc.
My guess is the NFL doesn't care, more eyeballs on the TV and more interest, regardless of the reason is good for business and equals more money. But just interesting how vastly different watching a college football game and college football on Saturday is from watching the NFL. Now you add gambling to the NFL and it adds even more interest.
I guess FF renewed my interest into the NFL, so I guess the NFL did the right thing by investing and growing FF. But it's just such a different feel than what it used to be when I was a follower of the Niners or how different it is from college.
