Division Rules… Enlighten Me

I figured you all could provide the answer quicker than I could find it. Aren’t conferences set up differently when I comes to division rules related to wins and losses?

Like a cross division opponent doesn’t hurt some teams with a loss and some do when talking about the conference they are in. Am I imagining this? Like does a Miami loss to Clemson hurt their conference standings the same as an Alabama loss to Tennessee?

In the ACC, all conference losses are counted, whether they are in the same division or cross division.

Thanks @Edisto_Tiger is the ACC the only conference that does this? SEC? B1G?

The Big Xii and the Pac-12 do not have divisions.

THE SEC, ACC and B1G have divisions, and games vs. teams from both divisons count in the standings.

IMO, only games against Division foes should count. Heard that opinion first from Steve Spurrier, and I agree with the former Head Ball Coach.

The ACC goes divisionless next year, I believe.

Probably should since the annual rival creates a disadvantage for some. Auburn gets Georgia. Ole Miss gets Vandy

That’s right. I knew Big 12. Still getting used to PAC 12 switching.

When the Big Xii decided to go without divisions, I did not like it at all. However, it is much more exciting and more fair (which is the most important part). Worked great for the ACC too in 2020. Just a matter of time before the B1G and SEC figure this out too.

That would help mediate unbalanced schedules somewhat. But not as good as getting rid of divisions.
