I get your points on this. But I also feel like you frame them as a response to what someone else says.dunno.
I dont celebrate Christmas anymore, but everyone still wishes me a Merry Christmas. I dont get offended. Just wish them one back.
Havent had a tree in my house in over a decade!
I play this myself. I try to wait for what they say and repeat it. If not I just go with Happy Holidays. I grew up with Christmas. We do Christmas. But, it’s not any bigger of a deal to me.
An example....a grocery store. I found a while back they coached their cashiers to wish all customers Happy Holidays. Because....there are multiple holidays in December, and their customers celebrate all of them. It’s just smart in that regard. What always gives me a smirk is when the customer in front of me is told Happy Holidays and they get full of indignity and attitude with “Merry Christmas!!!” back to the cashier.
While I agree that this smacks of PC gone wild....it’s also the appropriate way to handle a diverse customer base. How that customer takes or as an attack on Christmas I will never be able to fathom.
