Coaching a college team just starts with on the court Xs & Os. There is recruiting, managing, promoting and fund raising. Hiring a guy with a name but no track record is not smart.

Again, Howard was National Coach of the Year. Less than a year ago he got the award. He played 20 years in the league, won two titles. Then was an NBA assistant for 7 seasons.

Ewing was an assistant coach for like 15 years. Best player in program history. And John Thompson only had so many kids.

Illinois and Jimmy Collins remembers. But, Pearl is no different than most coaches when it comes to recruiting. He plays on the edge. Then lies about it. But he seems to be clean at Auburn, or he just hasn't been caught yet.

With exceptions of course many of the top NBA athletes are some of the top athletes in the world.
Plenty of them could have played in other leagues if they had focused on that sport. The reverse is rarely true.

Bruce Pearl got in trouble at Tennessee for having a cook out at his house with a group of his players and then like an idiot lied about it. The infraction itself isn’t even against the rules now and would have most likely been a second tier violation. The lying part got him.
The ironic part is that @broncosmitty is all about players getting paid but Pearl is a scumbag because he feed his guys hamburgers.
Classic case of getting his panties in a wad and wanting to see racism where there isn’t any.
Former top players rarely make successful coaches. As for Howard the jury is still out because the guy inherited a program that had been at the top for a decade and he has benefitted from players that were already in the pipeline or just coming because it’s Michigan so the jury is still out. Michigan is expected to be in the tournament and compete so let’s see if he can maintain that over a long period.
Maybe he does maybe he doesn’t but doesn’t change the fact the college ADs and presidents are idiots. That is proven over and over.

But on Howard, he should be let go. Do some time in rehab getting his mind right. But...this shit of shaking hands after a game is crazy. There is way too much at stake to be nice in pro sports. And after a couple of hours of hate ... nah...everyone just needs to go home.
