When it is this close, I usually go with whoever has the best tight end/

Shane.

This is probably the best offense I’ve ever drafted. I really like Marino with these wr’s and Herman Moore as as the jump ball we/TE haha. Along with Faulkner’s ability to run and receive out of the backfield and Taylor mixing in a physical running game. Behind my Oline. I think this offense puts up a lot of points

I also like my 5-2 hybrid defense here.

DE - Julius Peppers - $9 Panthers
LDT - Ray Childress - $5 - Titans
RDT - Randy White - $9 - Cowboys
Predator- Terrell Suggs - $7 - Ravens
WSLB - Jack Ham - $8 - Steelers
MLB - Jessie Tuggle - $5 - Falcons
SSLB- Charles Haley - $5 - 49ers
CB - Ty Law - $5 - Patriots
CB - Albert Lewis - $4 - Chiefs
CB - Asante Samuel - $4 - Eagles
SS - Rodney Harrison - $2 - Chargers
FS - Eugene Robinson - $3 - Seahawks

With Haley at SSLB , Suggs as the Predator , Ham at WSLB and Tuggle at MLB. That’s gives a lot of flex being able to line up with up to 5 on the line or drop some back. And shoot the gaps on running plays. I see Holmes struggling to run the ball and Brees under a lot of pressure with a lot of ball hawks in the secondary. Aggressive defense with lot of different looks run / pass blitz packages and the ability to drop in different coverages..Love Shane’s team but I have

Devil

Damn thought this would be closer. His offensive weapons are probably the best in this draft but weak OL. My defense is much better imo and Haley in 4-3 isn’t ideal. My DL would feast on his OL.

I’m gonna be honest I have no idea of the nuances that Devil explained. As is Haley for me is misplaced because if I couldn’t use Rickey Jackson like he’s using Haley then no one can!

I like Devils offense a bit better here so I’m gonna go with Devil.

I’m not running a 4-3 tho I’m running a 5-2. Haley has earned all pro honors at both DE and lolb. Which makes him a perfect fit for the SSLB being able to line up on the line or as an outside linebacker opposite Suggs as the predator. They have the ability to shift 5 on the defensive line or drop Haley and Suggs back. Ham playing WSLB suits his skill set and Tuggle is an ideal MLB in this defense. The system makes it very difficult on offensive lines

Actually like my oline is a lot. They are a great combination of pass and run blocking. Kramer and McKenzie were awesome blocking the sweep. Along with Shell it would suit Faulk well. Faulks ability to catch the ball out of the backfield also plays a big role imo.

Another great team Shane seems we had the same idea for WR’s

I'd have went with Shane in other matchups. Agreed its a little bit of a sell job needed to explain Devil's defense

I do think the OL is a weak spot but not enough to wash out his skill positions.

Thats also just about the best budget defensive backfield you can put together. Minus the fact Robinson is a total creep.

Brees to Moss would've been a fun combo

Yeah wasn't trying to dog your team just no way it is THAT much better. I think drafting McCaffrey and Rathman actually helps my team even more against your 5-2 concept. I have 7-5 in an unrealistic 12 on 12 setting. Having Ham as a great cover LB does help in your scheme though. I just don't think your offense is THAT much better than mine to make the defensive difference. I guess Hutson was a bad pick bc he isn't valued so that definitely is part of the issue here. Faulk makes your offense more versatile which helps a lot. Nice team :beer2:

Hope that didn’t come across as knocking your team. I was just trying to explain my defense. It’s a variation of the 5-2,eagle and 5-2 Oklahoma. The same one SC uses. I can see where some may think Haley would be out of place in a 4-3 but he is very strongly suited for that SSLB in the 5-2 role. You had one of my favorite teams as usual and I thought it would be a great game. Always enjoy our games we meet a lot. Great game again Shane it’s always a pleasure

Just to play "Devil's" advocate here, isn't the purpose of these drafts to use players how they were mostly used during their careers? How many of those players in your 5-2 defense ACTUALLY played in a 5-2 defense in their careers?

I mean self admittedly I have no idea what the principles of a 5-2 defense is, but I feel like you assembling this kind of defense is kind of like the Equivalent of drafting three career small forward and playing one of them at the 5. Could he do it? Sure, probably but how do we judge his efficiency there if he's never done it before.

The 5-2 defense is intended to bring a lot of looks creates a lot of confusion on an offense and heavy pressure up front on the pass rush and against the run, while giving up little on the back end. You could see 5 on the line like you would see most teams play on the goal line but there’s a lot of shifts like a 4-3 or a 3-4 along with several other looks including a rover on the QB depending on how the offense is lined up. It’s a read defense.

The fun part in drafting this defense for me was actually being able to select players in a 5-2 system positions that actually fit where they lined up during their nfl careers. Ie Haley is a perfect fit for my 5-2 at SSLB This draft was awesome really loved Duceys concept and had a ton of fun drafting which is what really matters imo. Definitely one of my favorite teams a lot of great teams in this draft really missed y’all too
