I wonder if the number of players opting out affects this. Even for not-top-tier teams. The Hokies have a great fan following, but not the same since Frank Beamer has been gone.
 
I just realized, I have seen BOTH of these teams beat Alabama in the Music City Bowl!
Virginia Tech in 1998 and Minnesota in 2004.

Nebraska fans would have packed Arrowhead for a bowl game. That is basically a 3 hour drive.
