Early Season Tournaments Thread

They do an increasingly poor job of advertising these.

It's hard to tell who is in what tourney and who is playing who. Even for a relatively hardcore cbball fan it's hard to tell who is playing in what

Like what the hell is Players Era and where did that come from? But it's one of the bigger tourneys.

Yeah, I agree. Charleston and Myrtle Beach are usually the week before Thanksgiving, since Maui, Battle for Atlantis etc.are that week. A little appetizer to feast week if you will.

We'll see how the Players Era does. It's one TNT/TruTv/Max so viewership could struggle. But it has great teams this year.

Even their bracket layout sucks.

Michigan vs Wake Forest on Nov 10th. already have my tickets

not a tournament, just a "neutral" site game

fun fact: Wake Forest played all their ACC home games at the Greensboro Coliseum from 1959-1989
Another fun fact:

The Deacs won this game :yahoo:

Drake vs. FAU in the semis. Have a real chance at an all mid major semis and final in Charleston.

Think it's probably the best win the league has as of now. Huge W.
Deacs have looked shitty most of the season, but the second halves against Michigan and Western Carolina were really good. still think the team has a high ceiling, but obviously has a low floor as well.

St Johns isn't a great team, but man Baylor is a bunch of hacks

Baylor with a buzzer beater. Incredible. Man St Johns really choked that one away at the line.

Me: Checks UVA/TENNESSEE halftime score.
"Hey, maybe UVa isn't half bad"

Me, this morning: Checks ESPN for the results of the game, with high hopes.
"Son of a bitch"

VCU, SJU and TT all took pretty crippling(as far as mid Nov goes) losses.

VCU- take an L vs a Seton Hall team that could be a really poor L. And is basically a lock to be a Q2 at best. While Vandy upset Nevada so it helps technically give VCU a better 2nd game opponent now. They are also in a loser bracket. Could get another L. And wind up playing a blahh game in 3rd game.

SJU-Missed a great win vs Baylor. Missed out on a great win/win resume game vs Tennesse. Now have to play Virginia. Which has little positive for the resume in the long run imo, but lose able.

TT-Loss to St Joseph is not good. Now get Syracuse another pretty worthless resume add instead of Texas

This is why unless you get in the big MTEs(still not foolproof) like Maui, Atlantis its better to just schedule a bunch of really good individual non con games and lock in opponents.

Good stuff. It is always interesting to see these early season brackets play out. I'm keeping my eye on Kansas State. They are the only team with legitimate at large hopes in their tournament and suffering any type of loss would be pretty devastating.

Yeah wtf are they doing in that tournament

Kstate already in big trouble. Already a meh loss. Nothing impressive. Not a great non con and the body language on that team looks brutal. McDaniel and Hawkins got their bag. Classic NIL roster of just paying dudes with no real plan.

Will have to really play well at home and pick off the good big 12 teams

Yeah, I don't get it either. McNeese could probably be a Q2 win if they get them in the final, but there's nothing else there. Drake, Wichita and St Johns at least offer some opportunities, but yeah not great. But none of those games are at home so hardly a guarantee. Gonna need a 2-1 record in those to put themselves in a good position.

And yeah, Hawkins has been terrible. What a waste of 2 million bucks. Lol.

Drake handles Miami wire to wire.

@rmilia1 you gonna get to any games? They legit look like a fun team to watch given the style. Didn't even shoot it well and still won going away.
Im going to the UNI Drake game later this year

Going to try to make it to one or 2 others

I am very pleased with how well the NW Missouri kids are integrating right into D1

I was telling my buddy yesterday to take Drake +9.5 but he was dead set on Miami lol

First time I saw them play, and man they just ran really good offense. Beating a team with a couple 5* and Pack, from wire to wire is super impressive. Game against FAU should be a good one.

How are we feeling about at large potential with these 2 wins? I think Of they get another tomorrow there a pretty solid shot they could get an at large of they put up a good conference result

I'm gonna guess these two wins and whoever they play in the title game, will probably be Q2 wins. Maybe Miami can be a top 50 NET team, but I doubt the other two would be. Still though, that's a quality win none the less. They still have K St on a neutral so that's either a Q1/Q2 opportunity as well. Indiana State was just 5-5 in Q1/Q2 games last year and they were, IIRC, the first team out. They also had a Q4 loss. And of those 5 only 1 Q1 win. If they win Sunday, they could already be at 3 Q2 wins. Let's say they slip up against K St, my guess would be something like 17-3 in MVC play to be on the right side of the bubble come conference tournament time.

Bradley, Murray State and Northern Iowa look like top 135 teams (maybe SIU and Indiana St as well), so winning in the road will add Q2 wins. Not sure any of them will be top 75 teams thought, but time will tell.

If they can get to something like 27-4(17-3) I think they'll be sitting pretty based on what Indiana State did last year and having been left out.
