EPL 2024/2025

I'd say Liverpool could challenge for the title. It's a mystery a bit due to their lack of signings and having a new manager, but their squad is really really good.

Aside from that, 4th place race should be between Spurs, Villa, Newcastle, Chelsea, and ManU.

Villa might fall this year like Newcastle did last year. UCL games plus league can wear on a team.
Newcastle could spring back up because they have no european games.
Chelsea on paper has a top 4 squad...but new manager and I think they have like 50 current roster players. Its a bit chaotic.
ManU should do better than last season, but we say that most seasons about them these days.
Possibly, but Emery is experienced with Europe and knows how to manage the players in multiple competitions (he's won Europa 4 times with lesser squads, plus a runner-up with Arsenal), Howe did not.

Heard 1st half on radio. Should have scored more in 1st half. Leicester will probably going to get docked points for "cheating" unlike Chelsea and Man City. How many goaltenders does Chelsea have? 8? Man City trial begins in September. Relegate them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyways, first weekend after Euros can be a bit dicey. Real Madrid tied too. So do AC Milan and Inter Milan. Hell Conte and Napoli got whacked 3-0. Anyways, I still like the Spurs chances this season for Top 4.

That's going to be a fun one to watch. Napoli and Spurs are similar (except that Napoli actually won the league recently). Seems like a terrible fit for Conte and I'd imagine he will have a ton of media blowups.

Very true. I was thinking more along the lines of roster depth. Last season, it was injuries more than anything else that crushed Newcastle.

Spurs still need a defensive mid I was hearing on Sirious. 10 days left in transfer window.

Still laughing at Chelsea. Just signed Felix for 40 million. Where is he going to play? Roster is now 41 players. Sterling didn't even make the game day squad last weekend and right away agent made noise about that. Amazing to see the players that did not suit up. Not a way to run a team that is looking to win. And they made Enzo Fernandez captain, playing him at 10, where Cole Palmer is best suited. I am sure the French players love having Fernandez as Captain.

that whole franchise is chaos. Hard to imagine they will sort things out enough to field a top 4 season

I think the Gallagher deal to Atletti is going through today. Napoli trying to pry Lukako over also. Boehly tried to reinvent financials for soccer by giving 8 year deals to spread out to spread out the transfer fee. A process called amortisation allows club books to account for transfer fees across the length of player contracts. EPL said no now, and can only do 5 years for this. Now some real garbage stuck on long term deals (see attachment).

P.S. I heard this story today when Boehly took over. He told Tuchel to play a 4-4-3. Think about that lol?

Chelsea sells all their academy players because the accounting for the purchase is 100% on the team buying the player. That is why a popular player like Gallagher had to go. Wonder if the same true when they sold Musiala to Bayern. Oooooh I bet they regret that now....

Another one who never lived up to the hype. He doesn't suck, but was hyped to be the next Figo. From what I've seen of him at Atleti, Chelsea, Barca and with Portugal, he seems bang average.

The other cheeky thing Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest have figured out to get around FFP rules.

They had a circular trade where they sold academy players for $30M, which allowed them to bank the profits in a single year while they amortize any new purchases over several years. Its a footy shell game that will ultimately fail.

Agree, but they don't have much choice. They don't have bottomless pockets like Man City, and also can afford to bribe or litigate the FA, UEFA or anyone else like City. So when they see the likes of City wiping their ass with FFP and other rules, they figure why not.

If the FFP rules were truly and equally enforced, they and other teams wouldn't have to do things like that.

Chelsea sure do!

Hopefully they continue to actually enforce their FFP rules. Feels like they only started doing that last season.

Spurs are the poster children for staying within the financial rules, which is great, but they also haven't won anything in over a decade.

yes and know. Sure Boehly and Co have a shit ton of money, they can and do spend more than most, but they are business people and won't just throw endless cash with no worries the way City do

Chelsea coach bashing Sterling and Chilwell this morning saying they don’t fit into squad. Who is going to take them with their salaries? Mudryk too? He signed through 2031. I will be retired and 70 then. Sterling still better than Mudryk now.

Everything’s on Peacock this weekend. :rolleyes2:

Not horrible early game.

Go Seagulls

Man U lol. Nothing has changed. You think they can convince Poch to drop the USA job?

Looking for Spurs to bang in a couple more in the 2nd half
London Football GIF by Tottenham Hotspur

Was hearing Arsenal in reality can only drop 19 points if they want to beat Man City. That would put them at 95 points. Last season 91 good enough, I think year before 89. Rice getting a red today, there goes 2 points down already.
