ESPN & FOX Agree To Start Early Big 12 Deal Talks

Soooo.... No chance that one BIG "Sisters of the Poor" conference is gonna happen??? :rolleyes2:

:pop2: :martini:
It could….just don’t see networks willing to pay out any more on a per team basis. There jus isn’t a “marquee” name among the 23 that would draw national eyeballs.

I was just having fun with Gee's "sisters of the poor" references... :dhd:

But I do agree with you 1000%, though! :beer2:

Iron. Clad.
It's not the Big12 who won't let UT and ou go.. it's FOX. They want future marquee matchups UT and ou have with the SEC on their platform. Otherwise they will be charging the Big12 whatever they think they are losing with UT and ou gone.

I actually can't blame the conference at all, they came to an agreement with both UT and ou.. ESPN was cool, but FOX isn't. Which i guess shouldn't be a surprise, right? They are going into a cold war with ESPN for CFB

ESPN/UT/ou probably knew FOX wasn't going to sign off, which is why they decided to scrap the ou/UGA series

Shit it's gonna suck because.. I'm looking forward to some better trips elsewhere once UT finally moves. I'll be in Tuscaloosa next September for Quinn's revenge game. Then I'll be back in Austin in '24 for the Michigan home game.. and hopefully we are playing in the SEC by '25.. although I still probably decide going to Columbus to see the house VY built.

Brett Yormark’s conference is in a race against the PAC-12 to land a new media deal. It’s been that way for a couple months. Now, it sounds like there could be significant progress made in the coming days with ESPN and Fox.

During an appearance on College Sports on SiriusXM, Yormark said a decision could be finalized “in the next week or two.” If a deal doesn’t come together, the Big 12 could get back at in 16 months after the conference bets on itself, Yorkmark added.

While it’s not known exactly how much the deal might be worth, Andrew Marchand speculated it could be worth as much as $400 million annually, according to 247Sports.

If the conference gets that kind of money with Texas and Oklahoma leaving, there’s no doubt Yormark will have done an incredible job. That’s a lot of money for a conference that won’t have a true powerhouse.

of course it would be more money annually, the old deal had them paying out over 40 mil per school for just 2 tiers of rights.. They are now pooling ALL 3 tiers of rights while adding 2 more schools. Thing is, it won't be a bigger payout per school. But it's most likely close to the current ACC deal avg per school.

Also fans of the Big12 are already pleading to ESPN to save them since FOX is invested fully with the BiG and will be putting Big12 matchups of the week on FS1 like this week lol

If they can land this deal it might be the push needed to pull in PAC schools. Honestly if I’m ESPN I’m thinking of this deal as 2 for 1 because if played correctly they will get a combined B12 & PAC.

Worst case is they get a ton of programming that they need anyway.

if the math says 33 per school at current adding 2 pac schools drops that to 28.5 and 4 schools drops to 25. so unless the pac gets a deal that pays significantly less and the other schools are willing to take 5mil or more less not sure that happens

it's going to happen, but will take a couple of years until the BiG is ready to renegotiate it's deal and include 4 more PAC schools into the mix (and possibly ND).

BTW I doubt it's 33 mil per school for the PAC after SC and UCLA leave.. think it's more in the mid to upper 20's

Pac needs stronger finish from UW and Oregon state. show that its not just OR and UT. also it wouldn't hurt for the conference to make a statement about staying 10 or moving to 12 and who the 2 would be and for those 2 to have good years.

TX and OK accepted invites on July 30th 21 to the SEC. Sept 10th 21 BigXII announced the 4 add ons. so just over a month.
news broke on UCLA and USC June 30th 22. we are nearing the end of Oct so going on 4 months and nothing about Pac adding anyone other than light speculation from talking heads.

33 mil per school.. were making over 40 for just tiers 1 and 2. This is for all 3 tiers.

I sure hope the Big 12 doesn't expect OU to take less money once the new 4 teams come on board.
