Expansion is back... back again.....

I was kind of hoping Amazon and PAC would align. Would be better than the PAC 12 Network as it currently is.
I don't think Amazon would touch the PAC with a 10 foot pole for the reasons @Wild Turkey alluded to.

Maybe not. But with Bezo's name being thrown around for new ownership of the Suns, and Amazon being West Coast based, with this idea of getting into sports, part of me thinks PAC might work only because it wouldn't require as much of an upfront cost, therefore the risk is lower after their massive deal with the NFL.

But again, that's also me just being overly hopeful.

Tabascojet makes motion to return Missouri to the big 12 for future considerations in North Carolina or virginia.....
ECU and ODU would be great fits for the SEC

they should pull the trigger now

Back to the tweet from OP:

I have a tough time believing the Big 12 doesn't want to do everything in its power to destabilize and ultimately dismember the Pac-12 at this point. If Oregon and Washington haven't already been invited to the BIG, there's a barrier and an opening for the Big 12 to exploit with the other schools.

Blood in the water.

I one time proposed the idea of ECU in the SEC when we were looking for partner to Texas A&M. They would have fit in the east, put the SEC in North Carolina, and they have a pretty dedicated fanbase with 50k stadium.

They haven't been that good lately though which is a surprise based on the fan support they receive.

I hate that Power 5 leagues are poaching from each other instead of upgrading G5 teams to Power 5. I initially thought that would be the plan back in the day. I was wrong.

100%….and it is eyeballs willing to watch marquee teams…even if those marquee teams aren’t worth a shit at the time. A 2-10 Notre Dame will draw more eyeballs than a Houston team that is undefeated.
I don't know depends on who each is playing. At 1-10 a lot ND people will have called it a day.

Ever since Texas destabilized the old Big 12, that angle is dead, imo. Right now we're basically heading towards 40-70 teams seceding from the NCAA and telling everyone else to fuck off.

And this has something that has led me to enjoy pro sports more and more.

NCAA and college sports just seem to have been at this uncertain crossroads for close to a decade now, and I'm just not sure what's going to come of it.

Yeah, I was naïve. It actually started with the ACC poaching BC, Miami, and Va Tech away from Big East.

Interestingly, I wonder if Big12 would have died had Nebraska stayed good. Even with the Texas money situation (which really hasn't helped them dominate the league), Nebraska may have felt happy if they were still winning.

Interesting "what if" scenario. I think Big12 may have not collapsed had Nebraska committed to staying.

Oh they would touch it...they just aren't going to overpay for the PAC.

Right now estimates for the PAC are 250 million or 25 a team (without USC and UCLA)

The problem with an Amazon deal is that the PAC Network has about 14.8 million subscribers.
14.8 million times $15 = $222,000.00 but you are paying $225,000.00

Of the 14.8 million how many already have Prime Memberships or are just getting it as a package deal and don't care?

If you lose say half (it could be more) because of the reasons above that is only revenue of $111,000.00 so what is the potential of making that up with ad sales? I can't answer that question but that is the one Amazon needs to answer and they have to do that every year of the contract so do they have the infrastructure?

For Amazon a lot of metrics go into play with this deal but I definitely think they would touch it but they have to estimate how many new members it would bring and how much in ad revenue they can generate.

lol how can UT destabilize a conference if they have struggle in the one money making sport? Had no idea that UT also destabilized the PAC conference as well

I think you're right about the cost for the PAC network, $15/mo or $180/yr.

Prime is currently $140/yr plus the added benefits of fast and free deliveries.

So in fact for those PAC fans that don't have it, they would actually be saving money if this deal went through

It is all Texas’ fault!

Prime is $15 a month so the money is the same. It’s not about PAC fans saving money it’s about if they already have Prime so will Amazon get new subscribers.

You have to estimate what that number will be and then figure in ad revenue and infrastructure. It’s not a cheap endeavor for Prime. What they pay to the schools is just the start.

Still laugh about Miami fans saying stuff like ACC = ALL CANES CONFERENCE back when they went over there.

They've been to the ACC title game less than Wake Forest, Georgia Tech & Boston College :pound:
