I remember when this happened. Everyone was talking about it the next day and radio stations around the country reported it was the most requested song for a while after that performance.

I don't think anyone ever even paid much attention to the song being sang before this happened and then after Whitney did it so beautifully every year after other singers tried to emulate her performance.
 
Not sure about favourite, but I loved this when it came out. She can sing.

 
But not this lame whiner. Not sure how she became anything in the mid 70's but she did.

 
And while I'm not saying she is a favourite, this gal can sing.
