Fickle is the new Wisconsin head coach

He is a guy who will make Nebraska more disciplined and they will compete with the B1G West, but if you think he is bringing Nebraska back to prominence (as one Nebraska fan mentioned) -- you are going to be upset.
Not THEE dreaded one fan! OMG the world is ending because ONE FAN said something. We all must take special notice of the ONE FAN!!!!

If you think you’re ONE FAN you are correct, the ONE FAN we laugh at.

It is good to see there are some Nebraska fans who realize the days of being nationally elite in today's CFB are over for Nebraska.

Thank you for being one of the reasonable fans.

And Michigan hasn’t either until a year ago but even then they couldn’t hang with the SEC. So Michigan is only relevant in talking but not actual play for Natties.

If you've paid attention -- I said Michigan is in the same boat, to a lesser extent. The difference in Michigan and Nebraska is -- we actually have talent in our backyard. The five star RB who ran for 200 yards in the 2nd half against OSU -- he is a kid from Michigan. The 5 star true freshman CB who only gave up 40 yards while covering Harrison Jr. -- he is a kid from Michigan. Aiden Hutchinson from last year -- he is a kid from Michigan.

That's the big difference between the two schools. We are both in a huge hole compared to schools located in states with a ton of talent who grow up dreaming of playing for that school, but one school's hole is a lot bigger.

That being said -- I fully expect Georgia to absolutely hammer Michigan if we end up playing them. I wouldn't be surprised to see them as a 2 td favorite against us.

His shitty year at OSU and lacking any real big time wins like all the G5 darlings of the past(Boise State, Utah, TCU, UCF, etc) had.
Hmm...I guess we'll just have to see how it shakes out.

And why is that?

Because he doesn't realize that Wisconsin is way more like Cincy than it is like the blue bloods in rich recruiting grounds that he's familiar with. Now, this could implode, it really could but the new AD felt he needed to go in a new direction so he did and that's what it is, good, bad or indifferent.

I don’t see that working out for Wisky

Dude strikes me as a guy that can win at smaller mid majors, but doesn’t have what it takes for a P5 job

Wisky kinda has a highly successful mid major feel though. They target kids for their system and play their style football which generally wins a good amount of games. They aren't really looking for a ton of high rated recruits and contention for the B1G keeps them satisfied.

Fickell was thrown into the fire too early as an Ohio State interim and it didn't go well but as he got more experience he got better and better.

If Day doesnt work out with his scUM struggles and Fickell has success at Wisky, it would be a great resume builder for him to have a shot at the Buckeye job

As I mentioned, we'll see. It's a whole new system on O for sure and probably on D as well. The team has always kind of been about upperclassmen playing and learning the system and being ready to play. I'm not going to have any over the top (think OD) expectations for next year...I'll just act like I'm from Missouri
And/or a lot of the players for that system. When he got the coaching job at Minnesota Lou Holtz said something that stuck with me. Something like "We'll get our hearts and souls from Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, etc. But we're going to have to get our arms and legs from Florida, Georgia, Texas, California, etc." But, IIRC, old Lou only ended up staying at Minne for a year or two!

Does Wisky have any restrictions in regars to using the transfer portal? More and more it looks like the schools that aren't able to attract a lot of big time recruits are going to have to use the portal quite a bit.

That and embracing the NIL fray...which seems to be both a good thing and a cesspool. NB4 anyone says the school isn't involved in the NIL...which is a big crock of shit.

^^ This ^^

Shades of Bill Snyder using the Community College players at KSU to build solid teams. That has now turned to the transfer portal.

Nebraska had maybe 1 or 2 CC players/yr, where KSU had a pile of them.

The thing with relying so much on CC's or Transfers is it's hard to build any depth since you only typically get them for 1 or 2 years.
Those systems are best used to get skill players.

Your O and D lines can be your 4 or 5 year guys built with locals.

Of course you need a coach that can get 11 (22) guys lined up right and put the pieces together.

IIRC, Dykes and his staff did something at SMU when they got there that made a lot of sense. They went after DFW kids that had gone off to “bigger and brighter things” right out of high school and convinced many of them to “come home”. Of course that only works if “home” has a lot of good players to start with.

It seems they’ve spread out even further with the transfer portal at TCU. Even have a Navy transfer this year. WTH is up with that?

And every school Lou left ended up in trouble with the NCAA.

Pitt and Syracuse were not major programs then nor now. Kelly was great during his time at UC. But the same can be said for Dantonio and Butch Jones
Weird. Here I thought Pitt is the defending ACC champion. You know, that conference with the likes of Clemson and Florida state?

The vastly overrated Clemson? The Florida St that hasn't been relevant for nearly a decade?

With 10 of 11 starters returning on offense, I think he may be stuck coaching to his personnel. I think the key will neing his asst coaches coaching up what is already there. The wholesale changes will start in Year 2
Unlikely with transfer portal.

I'd imagine few leave.

Some on their own, some mutual

Agree 100%. I don't believe transfers and incoming freshman will be enough to change the team drastically. 2nd year is where it starts to show out.

That's how Wisconsin has recruited since Barry took over in 92, the difference is he got the in state talent to stay in state where previously they went to Notre Dame or Michigan.
