Firings Have Started, List Them Here

Wouldn’t be surprised if Will Healy ends up at Clemson as some analyst position

I assume he means their interims.

Nebraska is Mickey Joseph
Wisconsin is Jim Leonhard

Think Nebraska sticks with Joseph? I've seen that the players like him but performance doesn't seem all that better.

I agree with Wisconsin

I disagree. Performance is better. But the lack of quality lineman, on both sides of the ball, makes it almost impossible to change the outcome.
That's what happens when you recruit players to fit a size metric without asking if they can actually play football.

ETA : I don't know if Joseph will be the next head coach, but I'm pretty sure he'll still here next year in some capacity.

I think Nebraska and Wisconsin both have their guys, at least for the immediate future.

Is that because they think those two are "the ones" or because they don't think they can get "the one"?

Staying in house would seem a good transition if things were going well. Have they changed "that" much since the HC firings?

My thinking is that you won't see much improvement this year, but if you can see it going in the right direction, keep them on the cheap for another year, if some 'great hire' just isn't out there.

No way Joseph takes that program and completely turns it around this year, so I'm not sure you can gauge it from that.

I think both of those coaches could be 'picked off' with a 1 year contract for 2023, and just see what happens.

I do not.

Mickey would have to win like 4 of the last 5 for Trev to even consider it. Unfortunately for Mickey it's too late in the year to get his O and D lines where they need to be. That shit starts in January, not August/September.

Mickey is a good recruiter, so I can see Trev wanting to keep him in some capacity if Mickey will go for it. They gave Mickey a $650,000 bonus for taking the interim slot. Keep him as AHC and other duties for the same monies and he might consider it.

I'm not the one saying they're sticking with their interims, but what the hell is "the one"?

Unless it's a Saban, Dabo, Meyer, they're all a gamble.

The pile of G5 coaches and P5 coordinators that have made the leap to HC and failed is deep.

Where is Duffy Daugherty when we need him?

Duffy reference? Damn you're old. :heh:

I guess I should have used the term "the fit". But, the right fit doesn't always work out either. So I would have to agree. Damn near all of 'em are gambles...which is why I can't figure out why schools throw so much money and long term contracts at those gambles. Maybe even some of those you mentioned in other situations. The horse racing term...horses for courses comes to mind. Some real good horses just don't run well on certain tracks.

It seems Mack Rhoades at Baylor has done pretty well with "fits" after the Briles fiasco. Rhule an G5 HC and Aranda a P5 DC.

I was a bun in the oven back then.

When Nebraska fired William Jennings in 1961, Nebraska's AD went to Duffy Daugherty at Michigan St and asked for some input on a new HC.
Daugherty said "Go get that guy out of Wyoming". That guy was Bob Devaney.

I agree with everything, except the number of wins. I think 3 of the last 5 would seal the deal. Getting this squad to a bowl game would mean that Joseph coached them to a winning record under his watch, at 5-4.
Now, I don't think they will win 3 of 5. But if they do, it'll be hard to not remove the interim from his job title.
