Unless they have to actually dive to get to a sharply hit ball, first basemen should not be ranging to their right.
That’s a routine ball for a second baseman.
It cost Galarraga a perfect game when Cabrera ranged insanely to his right, and it just caused Arky a chance to get to the CWS Finals.
This is a plague in baseball at every level, and I do not know why it hasn’t been fixed.
 
If there’s a runner on first, and there’s a chance to get the lead runner or a double play, it’s fine, but otherwise, let the middle infielder handle it
