Pretty sure the lower bowls only get like $4 million. Losing out on a couple million isn't chump change. Not to mention the financial benefits the coaches may have had for getting to a playoff in their contracts.

Alamo Bowl pays out 8.2mm

Orange is listed as a “contract bowl” but being a major it should be more than the Alamo.

I think the "Best 4 argument" has always been pretty flawed. Who the "best" is can be completely subjective, at some point on the field results have to actually matter.

On air sports personalities are like weathermen.

They can be wrong on many/most predictions, but they have the microphone and ability to make you forget how often they're wrong. When they're wrong they never address it.

You need to trust them that their next prediction is going to be right, because they're the 'experts'.

When networks have MASSIVE TV contracts with certain conference it's impossible for these talking heads to not be biased when they talk about shit like that.
