Although we fans are just looking at games/records, ultimately there are more factors than these which get a coach fired.
1. Off-the-field issues - Granted I think these are more like character suicides and this category should be called how well the coach gets along with the administration. Ed Odgeron was ultimately fired because he pissed off some LSU people in high places more so than his record.
2. Recruiting - Yes, schools will fire coaches because of poor recruiting. I think this one is kind of annoying because recruiting rankings are not very accurate in many cases but I see it all of the time at Tennessee. The fans start discussing how well the coach is recruiting. This was a major discussion point with Derek Dooley for example (although on the field performance didn't help there either)
3. Losing control/faith of the players - This seems to be a lot of kicker. Granted it is tied to many of the other points, notable just not winning. Most of the time, it is cited the coach has lost control of the team prior to firing (i.e. team gave up on the season and coaching staff).
4. Not winning - Again the biggest factor but you still see coaches with decent records (like Mark Richt, Les Miles, etc.) get fired. So W/Ls are not every thing.
5. How competitive you are against your rivals - This is the kicker. In the SEC, it really isn't about firing coaches for not winning a title, it is about firing coaches for not beating rivals. Gus Malzahn, for example, got fired for not beating Alabama and Georgia enough. The problem is, to beat your rivals, you have to put together a national title contending team. Saban has been responsible for getting a ton of coaches fired.
