I will tell you what -- it is absolutely amazing what they can do with modern medicine today. My best friend was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of leukemia, essentially his bone marrow was only producing blood cells that would attack and kill off his healthy blood cells. They gave him a 30% chance to make it to the end of the year (he was diagnosed in October) and roughly a 10% to make it thru the extreme procedures they would need to put him thru.
They had to kill off all the blood cells in his body right before they did a full bone marrow transplant. They had two perfect matches for him -- first one had the same blood type. The extraction didn't take, so they had use the 2nd donor, so not only did he get a bone marrow transplant, they were completely changing his blood type.
He ended up making it thru the end of the year, made it thru the bone marrow transplant and his blood count and oxygen levels are thru the roof right now. They have brought in Medical School classes to meet with him on his appointments, as they used some experimental treatments on him because of his dire his situation was and they worked better than they could have imagined.
My buddy was a 4 time all-american wrestler in college and still an absolute tank with zero body fat, so they said because he was in such good shape, they could be really aggressive in their treatments. I'm guessing they will be able to do the same for Metchie.
