Fox, CBS, ESPN, and...The CW?

Are they trying to improve in the teenage girl audience demographic?

Fun fact; despite having shows that you would think would be for teenage girls and DC comic nerds, most of CW's audience are actually 50+.

Fun fact: If you can't get an 'over the air broadcaster' onboard, you ain't shit. That's where the money is.

This is one of the most embarrassing things I’ve seen a conference do. Imagine having to turn on the CW to watch your team.

More embarrassing than say, multiple major sexual assault scandals?

It was actually pretty smart for the ACC. Better distribution, more potential to reach different subscribers, and potentially more revenue. Going from Bally Sports to CW is a massive upgrade. What's more embarrassing is not having access to watch games. Now more people do.
“Catch the kickoff of Clemson vs Florida State, right after the season premier of Fboy Island”

Bally Sports and everyone involved with them can fornicate themselves with a plugged in curling iron. They are the worst thing to happen to sports since Lebron James.

A game of that caliber would never be on CW. Also, you straight up ignored everything I said on why this is a good move. It appears the CW is trying to get into sports. Have LIV, and now this. Gotta start somewhere. Pitt/Cincy is an intriguing first game, I know I'll flip to it.

Yeah, it's a huge upgrade getting off that.

To be fair, I didn't realize they were on Bally Sports -- which agreed is somehow worse than the CW. But it's still comical to be on the CW no less. Catch a re-run episode of Supernatural and then Clemson Wake Forrest lol.

I'm all about shitting on Bally Sports as well. A company that took over Fox Sports regional channels, removed them from every major streaming service and then tried to charge $20/month for their streaming service. Fuck them.

Once you get past the CW part, it's a big win for the ACC, as I've outlined earlier. If the CW is serious about sports, maybe there is a P12 deal here as well. Fox wasn't considered a sports outlet until the NFL deal in the mid 90's. Obviously, this isn't to that extent, but it's an introduction into them getting live sports rights. It has great distribution, which will produce better ratings. It's a win/win IMO.

I can see the correlation although I don't completely agree with it. Fox formed as a channel in the 80's and within a year was trying to get the NFL. It took them 7 years to actually get that contract for the NFC. in the same year, 1994, they signed deals with NASCAR, NHL, and MLB as well. They were going all in and made massive financial considerations. The CW on the other hand has been around for a while and has an established viewership. They have soft pedaled their way into LIV and now what reads like 4th tier rights to a conference that is struggling to get TV revenue.

Is it a good start for the CW? Sure. Is it a way to put some walking around money in the pockets of ACC schools? Sure. Is it funny that a P5 conference is going to a channel whose lead in is going to be reruns of Gilmore Girls? Absolutely.

I agree the level of financial consideration isn't the same as Fox's was back in the day, but it is something.

Also, while the CW has been around for a while, Nexstar bought controlling shares last year, and has made live sports rights a priority. With LIV Golf and now this. Yes, it's a slow introduction, and not a massive financial stake, but given the level of commitment, my guess is it will be worth it from a ratings and revenue standpoint.

Nexstar is the king of "let's negotiate a new broadcasting contract" ....in before some acc market gets fucked with a blackout before the first kickoff this fall

Aren't they in a dispute with DirecTV right now?

I think this makes it easier for the PAC 12 to sell a package of games to the CW.
