Gary Patterson fired by TCU

He would still have coached another season had he beaten UT again this year. Hate to see it.

Hell yeah Coach Kill, hell yeah.

If TCU wants to get back to the Rose Bowl, they should hire the man that was OC when they won it, Justin Fuente! Do it, TCU! It's totally the best move you can make!

Seth Latrell would be good fit there.

Word is they want Sony Dykes and Conference USA is on life support so he would be an idiot not to jump ship.
SMU is an AAC member, not C-USA.

However, your statement may be correct since the AAC will now be full of former C-USA schools sans a couple. So it may well be C-USA with a new name.

Dykes, Traylor and Napier are listed in this article.

This statement in the article caught my attention.

"Traylor on Sunday signed new 10-year deal with the Roadrunners. It's unknown whether his new $7.5 million buyout would be enough to turn a Power Five program away from looking at Traylor."

Questions I have for those of you that know more about this than I do.
1. I can see why UTSA wanted that in the new contract. Why would Traylor when he is such a hot commidity right now?
2. Would the $7.5 million buyout be a deterrent for P5 schools? It doesn't seem like it for P5 schools considering how much they spend on payouts to fired coach and enticing salaries for new coaches.

Bout time for Kevin Sumlin to resurface and start taking schools money again (legend).
Might be a good fit at TCU TBH.

There is a famous tape that Bear Bryant made years ago (we are talking old-style tape on a basic recorder type thing) that basically was advice he was giving to younger coaches and he gave that tape out to some of the guys under him (I don't think he was coaching at the time and was the AD at Alabama so this would be shortly before he died). Wimp Sanderson was one of the people that got a copy of the tape and played some excerpts of it on the air and the section on contracts was interesting.

Bryant basically advised everyone to get as big a contract for as long of a period as they could. To illustrate why he told the story of a coach that was having a really good year, was presented with a new contract but thought he could do better in a year but things went south and he was actually fired. Bryant pointed out that he probably wouldn't have been fired if they had a bigger buyout and if they did his payout would have been bigger. The lesson was an old one that the "grass is not always greener".

So to answer your question #1 is very simple take the money when it is offered.
Question #2 my guess is it can be negotiated and possibly split and you would just have to run the numbers.

The article didn't say what his salary was going to be. Only mentioned the buyout nd the length of the contract.

We'd assume he is getting a huge bump. But, G5s can't compete salary wise with P5s...unless they have a crazy BMD that's willing to do it ala Houston.

he probably stayed b/c he never thought TCU would fire him

they probably feel like he raised the profile of the school and he failed them when he couldn't sustain those 10-11 win seasons and appearances in major bowl games. I wonder if they still fire him if he was a consistent 8-9 win coach for 20 years.

I wish we had him at Duke.
