Gayle Sayers, Dead at 77

I honestly didn't know there was another college football game other than bowl bound. There were a lot of stats based NFL games...Paydirt, Statis-Pro, but I was always more of a college fan. Bowl Bound was by Avalon Hill, somebody put it online a few years back, it was interesting, but didn't have the same feel. I can remember running tournaments with my friends, we got the expansion back and ran 32. '83 Nebraska beat '67 USC in the final.
APBA was a pro based game. Sayers was with the Bears at the time. APBA also had baseball, golf and on other IIRC. Some old pros in the golf and it was interesting. When you'd roll the dice it would tell you how far the guy hit his drive and how far off line it was. ANd the board would have fairway, first cut, deep rough, trees, water, etc. I was thinking last weekend if DeChambeau would have always been a long way but in the rough all the time in APBA, just like he is in real life!

What most people don't know, is that Omaha was a hot bed of fantastic athletes in the late 50's and early 60's. Gayle Sayers grew up and played ball in Omaha with the likes of Johnny Rodgers, Marlin Briscoe, Ron Boone, Bob Boozer, and the great Bob Gibson.

All came up during the same time period in Omaha.

One of my favorite people. Growing up I wasn't always the Saint you all believe I am today. My behaviors landed me in placement throughout my high school years.
Many weekends Mr Sayers would come out and play basketball with some of us in the fieldhouse. We'd play ball and sech for most of the day. He would pass out decks of playing cards that had a picture of him in his days with the bears on the back. I must have collected a hundred of them.
I always appreciated the time he shared with us. He was a kind and humble superstar.
