I think it's a ridiculous expectation that a player should be thinking in the best interests of the team. The teams sure as shit aren't thinking in the best interests of the players during negotiation.

Loyalty is a two way street and it's extremely rare that a player has a team's loyalty.

I think if the MLPBA wasn't short sighted and stubborn they'd see long term deals like that aren't good for overall business. But to be fair baseball is also the only sport where the owners won't openly share their books.
