Guess the CFP Top 25

Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have had a shot. Ohio State just lost their 2nd string quarterback and we’re down the the 3rd string. You could easily say they weren’t going to run the table with a 3rd stringer under center.
Feeling they deserved shot and having a legit chance are two different things.

I would actually argue that Baylor was the better team in a weak Big 12 that year but it doesn't matter. In fact, Baylor had the tiebreaker and should have been named Big 12 Champ. The Big 12 made them co-champs trying to influence the committee and it backfired.

What you keep missing is that multiple conferences have multiple teams better than the champs of lesser conferences. Eliminating them reduces the quality of the tournament. That's the problem with your champs only argument.
And I have no problem with that. Win to get in or play in the Also Ran Tournament

So you would have been okay with Wisconsin basketball not making the tournament in 2014, but okay with Providence making it? A Wisconsin team that made the FF.

Yes. If I remember right there was talk of doing one and done in the Conference tournament to save energy for the Dance. That is bull shit, IMO. The conference tournament should be an extension of the national tournament. Win that first and advance.

Because we don’t have a ton of blowouts now with only P5 teams
Yep. Everyone probably has a different definition of what is considered a blowout. 14/21 have been by 14 points or more with many of those a lot more than 14. The only games I would consider "close" are:
2014 Semi - Ohio State 42 Alabama 35
2015 Final - Alabama 45 Clemson 40
2016 Final - Clemson 35 Alabama 31
2017 Semi - Georgia 54 Oklahoma 48 (2OT), Final - Alabama 26 Georgia 23 (OT)
2018 NONE
2019 Semi - Clemson 29 Ohio State 23
2020 NONE

I gotta disagree Kbur with part of this. I'm even more "old school". I see no reason to play both a regular season conference schedule AND have a conference tournament at the end in order to determine who is best. If you are playing a double round robin conference schedule, why do you need a tournament to determine a champion? But, we all know why they do it. They'll do ANYTHING to increase the Benjamins!

Disclaimer 1. The fucked up and ridiculous size of conferences now prevent them from playing a true double round robin! Disclaimer 2. The Big 12 has been nuts playing a CCG in football because they play a round robin and know damn well who is the best at the end of that.

But they were Co-Champs - just like Auburn was a Co-Champ in 1988, 1989 and some other years before the SEC started their Conference Championship Game.

I agree nearly 100% although I can buy the regular season for setting up seeding in the Conference Tournament. In football it doesn't work as well. For determining who wins a division only division games should count. The winner of the division moves on.

Man we were co-champs so many times where there were two and three teams listed. It was really joke before the SECCG. The team that hasn’t been in the Sugar Bowl for the longest period of time got to go.

That’s the kinda crap that went on.
