Heel of the bread

Do you eat the heel

I will use it for a PB&J. It ain't no thang.
 
I used to skip over the first heel and then I’d be left with just the two heels and then throw it out. Now I make the sacrifice on the first and last sandwich of the loaf

If the first one is a petri dish, wouldn't the slice touching it be somewhat of a petri dish, too?

so you're saying there's more flavor in that heel?
 
I eat it unless it goes bad by the time I get to it. I feel like an asshole if I waste edible food. I'll often use for toast or garlic bread alongside some pasta- the heel makes a good vessel for scooping pasta and sauce.

Other times I'll do a PBJ with it or a chicken patty sammich or just any regular sandwich

Nah I've never had to do it but I always felt bad for the poor guy that did. Fucking sports teams, eh? 😉

Just like my wedding night..I eat it ALL!
 
I don't eat them unless I've planned on making a sammich, go to open the bag, and that's all that's left. I keep the front heel with the loaf to keep the next piece from drying out too much. I have to store my bread in the fridge because it will go bad before I can finish a loaf, so that first heel as a buffer is critical.
 
I’ll make a sammich with 1 heel + 1 bread but not with 2 heels together...that’s fuckin crazy
 
The end piece is the only piece of bread I like.
 
We always called it the "Hand Cleaner" cause everyone touches it on the way to the other bread. I dont really care, but as someone else said, they make the best hotdog buns.
