I am at the endodonist and they hand me a computer to enter my info. As I type, other people's info who were on it before starts popping up. I told the lady I ain't putting my info on the computer and she got pissy. I then said I had my certs for HIPPA and this is a patient breach. She took a different tone as she gave me paper to work with. I underlined and put on top the part where they must notify patients if there is a breach.

Smug fucks about to get a call from the government
You are 100% correct. If someone wishes their medical conditions to be private, I am good with that and respect their privacy & rights. My wife is entitled to my medical information, and anyone else who cares that is how I signed off on my HIPPA forms.

So after reading this thread it occurred to me, that i gave the impreesion it was medical info. I was finding.

It was not. Name, addy, social security, email etc.

That was what the tablet had on it.

That's all still protected health information under HIPAA.

While what happened was a gross error, I don't believe it falls under a reportable incident or an actual breach of information. Unless you retained any of the info that you saw on the screen (or someone else sees and retains your information), then it's an inadvertent internal use, with no further use.

Still, they should make sure no one else's information is visible if they're going to let patients use the tablet themselves to enter PHI. That's an easy fix.
