HooplaNation Week 5 Discussion Thread

Mississippi State getting a ton of love in the Hoop poll and they deserve it. I will say the LSU we saw Saturday won't be the LSU we see at the end of the year. We saw a team that lost the majority of its starter, breaking in a new QB, missed Spring and has had a ridiculous hard practice situation. Under those circumstances you'd expect an evil genius like Mike Leach to take advantage and Coach O has been and is over his head. That being said no one wants to play Miss State right now.

I don't get so much Penn State love unless you are factoring in their schedule. They will lose to tOSU but after that there really isn't anyone on the schedule to impress so a one game season is ridiculous.

I've got no clue what to think about Georgia and from what I saw Forida is the team to beat in the East. They should be the highest rated team in the East.

Miami deserves the love they are getting but we'll see what they are made of when they play Clemson. Until then we have no clue.

Ranking teams right now is an exercise in ignorance because we don't know shit.

Love how the air raid is in full effect in the SEC.. love talking about the tough defenses, and quick to point out that LSU is missing everyone and the only reason why they gave up 680 or so yards.. Or how now that even with a poor defense, Ole Miss will be scoring.. There will be games like this, 2020 or 2025.. Offenses travel week to week, defenses will start adjusting to bend but don't break between the 20's.. No wonder Saban has been all over the ISU DCs nuts the past two offseasons...

Texas Tech put 56 on your team so until you actually know what defense is keep the term out of your mouth.

The U looked decent last night. It'll be interesting how they handle Clemson.
Was it ever clarified why herbie was at home during the broadcast last night?

Rough and predictable ending for South Carolina.

Real happy that Ohio State has been able to see other teams struggle out of the gate, they have zero margin for error this season and a stumble against Nebraska and Not Our Rival in the first 2 weeks would be catastrophic.

Also Roll Tide has all the ingredients.

Excel preview (link in the OP of both threads) has been updated through 4 voters. I will update it later tonight.

Has Louisiana been crowned National Champions yet?

Pitt is getting shafted

I had them ranked in my poll on here. Still, long season. If they keep winning, they will get respect. Most of the early season rankings are just based off previous year performance, returning talent, and recruiting ratings. There isn't enough games yet to get a truly accurate poll.

I will say that I discovered that Tennessee now has the longest win streak in CFB since LSU lost. Crazy stat. Perhaps we should be higher in the polls 😄

That's actually not correct. I saw that floating around in Twitter on Saturday. ND has won 8 in a row.

Hey, do we want this modded like we did on the site not to be named? Moving all discussion out of the voting thread to here?

If going off of this years results plus previous year performance, returning players, and recruiting rankings then Pitt should probably be in the same area as UNC and Tennessee.

They are likely lower than UNC and Tennessee due to recruiting rankings. Both UNC and Tennessee have done better in that situation. It also helps UNC has Mac Brown. As stated, it really won't matter at this point in the season. Most of the good schools that are underranked feed off the disrespect language.

Pitt is partially hurt by the fact that the Northeast hasn't had good football in a while. Boston College, Syracuse, Rutgers, and Pittsburgh haven't done much in modern history. They have the same isses as the Pac, heavily populated and popular media market but not much interest in football, especially colldge football. Pennsylvania is an exception but Pittsburgh lives in the shadow of Penn State.
