HooplaNation's 2023 CFB Week 9 Rankings - Discussion Thread

Yeah, that I don't quite get.

That's the one good thing about a committee. H2H will be applied when all is equal. CPU's can't distinguish that.

And Oregon State beat Utah and is behind them. Both have the same record.
Which is why ranking all this isn’t an exact science and mainly guess work. And with polls, human bias comes in…regardless of those that think it doesn’t.

Main reason I’m for an expanded playoff. Yeah, there will be the 12-13 argument. And the best team may end up just like the BCS and current CFP. But there is more playing for it” than “voting for it” IMHO.

Tennessee is all over the map in terms of rankings:

Colley - 37
Sagarin - 14
Massey - 16
Wolfe - 36
Billingsley - 23
AP - 21
Coaches - 20

Averaging out the CPU's they are just outside the top 25. The human polls are largely keeping them ranked in this version of the BCS. I don't have them ranked either. No good wins, looked bad against UF. You could argue they are a top 25 team based on a power ranking standpoint, but if so it's barely. My guess is they lose to UK this weekend.
It ain’t just in the rankings

Not that my rankings go this far in depth, but just looking around. In the simulated BCS standings above, Air Force is ranked. Okay undefeated. Air Force's best win is over 5-2 Wyoming. Wyoming's best win is over 6-1 Fresno State. Now, Fresno State (not counting the Wyoming game) has played teams that are a combined 8 and 29. Yeah, wow! Like I said, I don't dive this deep for my own computer rankings. It would take all my life. But this one was a little surprising.

Fresno State faces off against UNLV this weekend and I've seen michigan fans that are saying UNLV is a quality opponent since their only loss is to michigan. Granted, every other team UNLV has played has a losing record, but still. Quality opponent.
