Switzer - 1 school | 16 seasons (16 at Oklahoma)
Hayes - 3 schools | 33 seasons (2 at Denison, 3 at Miami OH, 28 at Ohio State)

Switzer - 3 National Championships | 12 Conference Championships
Hayes - 5 National Championships | 15 Conference Championships (1 at Denison, 1 at Miami, 13 at Ohio State)

The one stat I want to know is how did they do vs AP Final Top 25 and Top 10. I won't have time to do the # crunching before poll closes. But this makes Switzer look more impressive.

Fine, I will go with Switzer on this one.

But only this one time!

They claim titles in 1954, 1957, 1961, 1968 and 1970.

1954 and 1968 are the only legit claims for Woody. You'd even agree that two of them aren't legit since neither the AP nor UPI had them as champs. 1957 they were UPI champs, but that had to just be a case of northern bias against all southern teams not named Alabama(that's the only way they could justify UGA not getting the nod in 1946)

I originally voted for Hayes, but now being reminded that OSU was just as egregious if not more so than Bama when it came to claiming natties during the Hayes era, I switched my vote to Switzer.

What say you

It's easy.
If you are going to count NC's from all sources, then you need to do that with both Coaches.
If you only count AP/Coaches end of year NC's, then it breaks down like this.

Woody - 1AP 1Coaches 1 Concensus
Barry - 1AP 2 Consensus

Appreciate your input on these two coaches!

I have no issue with Ohio State's 1957 UPI. I also have no issue with either 1961 (FWAA) or 1970 (NFF), as that is who the selectors selected. For what it's worth, the FWAA is the selector that chose Arkansas in 1964.

Interestingly, Tennessee (1951 AP and UPI), Auburn (1957 AP) and LSU (1958 AP and UPI) all won AP and / or UPI in the 1950s before Alabama won their first of each in 1961.

Ohio State and Texas for that matter are not rightful national champs in 1970.

Nebraska is. #Facts

I ran onto these numbers in an article comparing Switzer to Saban.
It doesn't say if they are end of year rankings or time of game rankings, but here they are.

Switzer vs Top 25 43-21-4 66%
Switzer vs Top 10 23-17-2 57%

Ok, the same source had these Woody Hayes numbers:
Hayes vs Top 25 41-31-5 56%
Hayes vs Top 10 23-21-4 52%

I went through and did it with Switzer vs Osborne

Osborne (25 seasons) - 90/25=2.6 ranked opponents a season
-- vs 11-25 (AP Final Poll) 33-8-1 - (.786)
-- vs Top 10 (AP Final Poll) 17-31 - (.354)

-- vs Top 25 (AP Final Poll) 50-39-1 - (.556)

Switzer (16 seasons) - 49/16=3.1 ranked opponents a season
-- vs 11-25 (AP Final Poll) 10-8 - (.556)
-- vs Top 10 (AP Final Poll) 16-14-1 - (.516)

--vs Top 25 (AP Final Poll) 26-22-1 - (.531)

Switching back to Switzer.
