HooplaNation's Week 9 Rankings - Discussion Thread

Michigan got a good win and test from (3-4) Iowa in a 27-14 win.
I wouldn't call Iowa a test. The game was never close. UM was up 20-0 going into the 4th quarter. Iowa scored on an 80 yard drive with a minute to go. They scored with 8 seconds left to get to the final score.

Maryland was a closer game for UM.

I've noticed a discrepancy here. Who has Michigan been tested by, exactly?
Not much -- Penn State was supposed to be our big test. We bullied them all over the field on both sides of the ball. We had two running backs go for 150+ on them.

Teams tend to either get better or get worse as the season goes on.

At the time, Oregon had a brand new HC, new starting QB and plenty of roster turnover. While playing a road game vs the defending champs and best team in the country.

As for the game itself, it was over before HT. Switch out Oregon with any other team in the country, keep everything else the same, and the result would’ve been the same.

A brand new coach who happened to be the defensive coordinator for the team he was playing, A new starting QB who was playing Georgia for the 4th time...and managed to have his worst outing.

There are way too many people willing to excuse Oregon's performance in this game.

Georgia is a great team, Oregon is not. Certainly, Oregon has improved from the first game, Georgia might only beat them by 35 if they played them tomorrow...or they could beat them by 60.

People in here talking about passing tests, Oregon was going to have one test this year...and they failed miserably. After that, it's just patty-cake OOC games and games against Pac-12 teams who've managed only 5 OOC wins versus ranked opponents in the last 5 seasons including bowl games and have gone 0-4 vs ranked and 3-7 vs P-5 this season. The 3 wins are over Notre Dame, Michigan State and Wisconsin...a real murderer's row this year. Hanging 40 on yet another hapless Pac-12 team just makes them the tallest midget.

There have been 16 semi-final games since the playoffs started. Only three - yes three have been within 10 points. When one of the best teams gets on a roll, not even the next best teams can compete with them.

They had a tough Spring Game with themselves. Michigan has played a weak schedule, much weaker than ohio state. ohio state scheduled Notre Dame without knowing they would be average (at best), Toledo is usually a good MAC team, Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan State are all having unexpected poor seasons. I didn’t rank teams this weak, but ohio state would have been higher than Michigan. I love Michigan, and I hate ohio state, but the truth is the truth.

@Collegefbfan , I am curious as to the meaning of the numbers you list after the teams in the rankings.

Yeah man no problem. Computer rating based on win percentage, SOS, opponents win %, opponents’ opponents win %, bonus for a tough SOS, and penalty for a weak SOS. Just something I do for fun.
