2024 World Series Houston Astros vs Philadelphia Phillies

I’m a big fan of Verlander and all, but his track record in World Series starts really should be held against him. Spotted a 5 run lead and he gives it all back.

But the Phillies are winning this in 5.

Astros will win tonight and than the Phillies will close it out at home.

They’re just too hot to handle right now, and even their bullpen, which was a weakness has been one of their biggest strengths in the playoffs.

I don't know anyone who doesn't think his postseason numbers are ugly but he still Justin Verlander and you know he has the ability to be 100% lights out in any given start and you have to respect that.

I didn't think the Phillies would get to him at all but they chipped away with small ball and made it happen. That's what this Phillies team has been doing. Put the ball in play and things happen.

His overall playoff numbers aren’t terrible, his WS numbers are though.

I didn’t get to watch last night, kept up as best I could on my phone from the bluegrass jam I brought my fiddle to, but I knew the Phillies had it won when they made it 5-3 and Nola got a shutdown inning

You knew better than I did. There was still plenty of baseball to play and Houston was knocking on the door a couple times.

And using past data doesn't always work. That's like you saying "Phillies ain't winning this. 800 teams have gone up 5+ runs in the WS and won. There have only been 5 comebacks."

I was hoping there was something to those numbers like wearing out over a long season or something.

IMO, if a player is caught leaning into a pitch to get hit, it should count as a strike.
1,000,000% agree (that means I really agree).

It should always be a strike no matter where the pitch was if the ump rules the player was clearly leaning, as Diaz was there. Should always be a strike.

It’s a big enough sample size for there to be something to it. One of the best regular season pitchers of his generation, decent overall in the playoffs, worthless in the World Series

Reggie Jackson hit .278/.358/.527 with 18 homers in 77 postseason games. He had a 1.212 OPS in the WS, but had a mere .679 OPS in the ALCS.

Bernie Williams hit .275/.371/.480 with 22 homers in 121 postseason games. He hit only .208/.319/.358 in 141 plate appearances in the WS.

Manny Ramirez hit .285/.394/.544 in 111 postseason games, but hit .247/.362/.416 in the WS.

Curt Schilling had a 2.23 ERA in 133.1 postseason innings, but had a 5.82 ERA in 21.2 ALCS innings.

Chris Carpenter had a 3.00 ERA in 108 postseason innings, but had a 4.38 ERA in 39 NLCS innings.

Madison Bumgarner has a 2.11 postseason ERA in 102.1 IP, but had a 4.43 ERA in the NLDS (22.1 IP) and 4.15 ERA in the NLCS (26 IP).

Dusty challenges a call just to get Wheeler's timing off, and Thomson never had the umps check Valdez after he used multiple gloves, goes to a spot on his glove hand palm on every new baseball, and wipes his glove hand every time he comes off the field?

Bahaha! Dorp
Didn't lead to anything. Son of a b. Also them showing the Philly fans jumping around celebrating Schwarber's "second home run" was basically a live look at my basement.

Yeah, I thought for sure that's the kind of thing that leads to a big inning

Future hoopla douchebag in the making.....this your kid @Guy Incognito ?

My daughter reflexively boos Mets fans, but no, we don't live in Willow Grove.

Game 3 tonight is officially postponed. This benefits the Phillies according to the experts on FOX.
